Pizza At The Cemetery

It was a lonely night when the Moon was shining brightly. There was sound of silence and the stars were twinkling with a smile. Perhaps it was a great time for a pizza bonding moment at the cemetery together with my loved ones.

Have you tried pizza at the cemetery?

It may sound unusual and creepy but we tried it. Since my dearest sister @erikasue was gone, we are missing her every day, so our way of remembering her is to visit at the grave where she was buried, while bringing her favorite foods when she was still alive.

Together with my sweet family…

Being part of our religious family tradition through a form of offering to our departed loved ones, it is also a simple gesture of love and care even if they are not with us physically. My sister was buried beside my late grandfather and uncle, so it is an all-in-one visit whenever we would go to the cemetery every single day.

Strolling down memory lane, one of her favorite foods is pizza.

In fact, she really loves ‘Friezza’. Below are here favorites which are a two-in-one combination of fries and pizza. And these were the delicious pizzas that we ordered back then.

This is the Ham and Cheese. A home-made pizza loaded with bits of flavors and cheesy fries. One thing I love about this is its cheesy nature because I am really a cheese-lover.

Another combination of pizza and fries is the Hawaiian. It has a quiet similar taste than that of the ham and cheese, and its only difference is the presence of sweetened-pineapple bits and it is also loaded with so much cheese.

This is the combo friezza. It is an all-in-one combination of all flavors. It is loaded with so much spices, meat, and seasonal vegetables, making it very delicious.

I remember one time she once recommended a delicious home-made pizza nearby, and she said that she loved it very much, so on that day, I ordered for it and she was the one who dropped at the pizza store to get my order for her since it was so close to her workplace.

Meanwhile, she arrived with big smiles at the house bringing her favorite pizzas while saying to me:

”Te, naara ang pizza. Lami kaayo ni te, promise.”

This line is a Cebuano expression of gratitude and appreciation for granting her request. She had the sweetest and prettiest face with a rare and natural beauty.

The pizza that I ordered for her that time was Creamy Spinach Dip.

And on another day, we had shared together the Meaty Supreme.

I could still remember her sweet, jolly face while she placed the pizza at the table so we could share together. I admit I am missing her every day for one of our favorite bonding moments is to share with our favorite foods at home when we decided to have take out meals.

After we had eaten the pizza, she said to me that during our free time, when there is no work, we would go together in the pizza store so we could also feel its cozy ambiance.

But then, in a blink she was gone and we cannot taste the same food together…

And now, the only way to bond with her again is to offer her favorite pizzas at the cemetery…

Until such time that we decided to have a family bonding. The other day, I, together with my family decided to have a night vigil at the cemetery because it was the moment when everyone took a break from work so we had the chance to be closed with each other together.

Our usual time of visiting her at the cemetery is before every sunset and we would go home every 8 o’clock in the evening. But during that moment, we went home at around 10 o’clock in the evening.

When we arrived there, we had already brought her favorite foods, but after two hours of staying at the cemetery together with my family, I felt hungry, and I suddenly remember her last request to me, so I chatted my high school friend, who was the owner of the pizza store to deliver my orders at the cemetery despite the rain.

Before the orders arrived, the rain fell heavily with a loud thunder and multiple lightnings. We could hear the roofs swaying with a sound of a drastic damage, but we were all safe. Afterwards, the pizza arrived through the delivery man riding a motorcycle.

Here are the pizzas that we have ordered in three yummy flavors, namely the creamy spinach dip, peach mango, and meaty supreme.

Peach mango is a new flavor of the store, so my sister was not able to taste it anymore.

But I am sure that if she is still alive, she would love it since she really love peach mango flavors. Among the three flavors that I have ordered, my most favorite pizza is the peach mango pie.

When the heavy rain stopped, we then went home with big smiles as we enjoyed a priceless family bonding moment while sharing pizza at the cemetery.

Perhaps no matter how simple the food is when it is shared with loved ones, it would become more palatable, making it the most delicious pizza ever. My sister may not be around physically, but surely she was happy watching over us from heaven.
