Korokke!! Yes, they are Korokke!!! - 08052022

Croquettes made with squid ink! It was so delicious.
The first beer I ordered. I wanted to order a Spanish beer, but when I asked for a recommendation, he recommended a British beer.
First Spanish beer in my life!
In Japan, Westerners don't eat octopus! I learned this in school, but in Spain, they eat it. One question many Westerners studying in Japan ask Japanese people is, "Isn't octopus said to be the devil's fish?"
I came to Spain for the first time in my life. Barcelona airport was really spacious and clean with high ceilings.

Korokke - Croquette -

Have you ever eaten Croquette - Korokke before? Do you know what Croquette are??

According to Wikipedia it says, "Korokke (Japanese: コロッケ; [koꜜɾokke]) is the Japanese name for a deep-fried yōshoku dish originally related to a French dish, the croquette. Korokke is made by mixing cooked chopped meat, seafood, or vegetables with mashed potato or white sauce, usually shaped like a flat patty, rolling it in wheat flour, eggs, and Japanese-style breadcrumbs, then deep-frying this until brown on the outside." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korokke

I was on a recent trip to Barcelona, Spain, where I had an emotional encounter. I met a croquette! Yes, it seems that people in southern Europe eat croquettes. At least, the restaurant I visited in Barcelona served croquettes as an appetizer, so I ordered one right away.

The main ingredient of croquettes is potatoes, but for some reason they are not eaten very often in Scandinavia. Fried potatoes or mashed potatoes are the mainstream, and the culture of eating croquettes is not rooted in Scandinavia.

For me, croquettes are one of my favorite foods, especially when I was a student, I used to snack on croquettes in the student cafeteria or go there during breaks to eat them. It was introduced to Japan through the French in the Meiji Era, about 200 years ago, and is now a popular food in Japan.

The Barcelona croquettes were, to my surprise, seasoned with squid ink, and the croquettes were black inside. I had never had squid-ink croquettes like this before, and they were absolutely delicious! The crispy fried outside and the moist inside of the potato was the best texture I have ever tasted. I was surprised at the price of 15 euros, but if the price was 100 yen per piece like in Japan, I could have eaten 10 pieces. I think I could have eaten 10 of them. Ahhh, croquettes are the best!
