Undoubtedly the most delicious baklava I have ever tried was on one of my holidays in Turkey. That incredible taste and that melt-in-your-mouth crispness are unattainable for me.
Today I will show you how my grandmother taught me to prepare this sweet temptation.
I really love baklava, but I make it very rarely because it is a real calorie bomb.
Ingredients:
- 1 package of phyllo pastry sheets
- 800g walnuts
- 250g butter
- 1 tsp sugar
For the syrup:
- 1kg sugar
- 1l water
- vanilla
- 1/2 lemon
Preparation:
First make the syrup. Put the water and sugar on the stove and boil for 10-15 min. Add the vanilla and juice of half a lemon and leave to cool in the fridge.
Mix the walnuts and sugar. Melt the butter and brush the bottom and sides of the pan. Divide the sheets into 3 parts (my package had 18 crusts). Brush each sheet with butter and arrange 6 sheets into the tray, put half of the walnuts. Arrange 6 more sheets and spread the other half of walnuts. Then the last 6 sheets. Don't forget to spread each Don't forget to spread each sheet with butter.
When everything is ready, we need to cut the baklava. I prefer to cut the baklava into small rhomboids big enough for one bite.🙂
Pour the remaining melted butter over the baklava and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C
When golden on top and bottom, remove from the oven and baste with the cold syrup. Leave for 24 in a cool place.
Important!
If you prefer the baklava soft and juicy, wrap it with foil. If you prefer it crispy and juicy, do not wrap it.
Let's serve!
