Let's Cook The Viral Egg Fried Rice Korean Style! Will Uncle Roger Approve This? What do you guys think?

At some point last year, this fried rice recipe was viral. I watched clips on tik-tok and youtube on this recipe with many variants. Soon, Egg Fried Rice becomes a new menu in many restaurants just like Dalgona Coffee. At first, I could not understand the appeal but after cooking it, I have to say it's addictive.

Other than Rendang, Indonesian is known for its Nasi Goreng or Fried Rice. The Indonesian fried rice is flavorsome with complex spices some even involves cooking with charcoal. Growing up knowing that it's difficult to make a delicious fried rice with simple ingredients, I was skeptical about this Egg Fried Rice Korean Style recipe. But after cooking and trying it, I would say sometimes simple doesn't mean tasteless or bad.

The Egg Fried Rice Korean Style recipe is extremely simple. All you need is rice, egg, and chopped leeks. You can also add chopped sausage but let's keep it classic this time.

Ingredients

1 bowl of leftover rice from the rice cooker
3 tbsp olive oil (vegetable oil preferred)
2 eggs, separate yolk and the white
2 leeks, chopped

Spice

  • 2 pinch of Salt
  • 2 pinch of blackpepper
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp oyster sauce (optional)

By using olive oil, I don't think uncle roger would approve this 😂

Instructions

Chop leeks and set it aside.
Crack the eggs and put the yolk in the rice bowl.
Set aside the white to scramble later.
Mix the yolk with the rice evenly.
Heat a non-stick pan/wok in a low heat Add 3 tbs oil.
Add the chopped leeks until a nice aroma comes out.
Add the rice into the pan.
Season with salt, blackpepper, oyster sauce and sesame oil.
Cook well for 5 minutes.
Serve while it is hot and sprinkle with chopped leek as garnish.

Note

After watching uncle roger video on fried rice, I learn that it's common to use rice from the overnight rice cooker batch instead of a fresh batch.

I don't know if that recipe can be approved by uncle roger because I use olive oil instead of vegetable oil. Also, no MSG too which is another red flag 😂 but joke aside, This Egg Fried Rice Korean style is so simple and yummy. If you are lazy but wants to eat comforting meal, find rice, egg, and leek. Then you're set for a treat! Don't hesitate to add protein like sausage, it really goes well with it.
