We all need a delicious treat now and then, and they do say An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away not so ;)
Never mind the thin layer of spiced batter that enfolds the apple rings and the added sugar and spice; we'll just pretend that also is healthy and not overdoing the carbs! I further shallow fried the Apple Ring Donuts in healthy Canola Oil, which is said to lower the bad cholesterol.
These Apple Ring Donuts were very yummy indeed!
Ingredients required:
- 3 Apples
- 1 Egg
- 1 1/4 cup Buttermilk
- 2 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 cup Cake Flour
- 1/2 tsp each Cinnamon, Baking Powder & Salt
- Sugar & Cinnamon mix for dipping the donuts in
Slice Apples into thin rounds, cut a hole in centre to remove the apple core.
I used the lid of a bottle of Vanilla Essence as it has a sharp edge, you can also use a small cookie cutter.
The Batter
Beat together the egg, buttermilk & sugar
Add sifted dry ingredients and mix till smooth
Dip raw Apple Rings into the batter
Shallow fry in a little Canola Oil till brown, turning to brown the other side. Drain on paper towels before dipping into sugar & cinnamon mix to coat.
Almost time to tuck into yummylicious Apple Ring Donuts ;)
Pile them up high into a mini Apple Ring tower for serving, or arrange them on a plate.
Delicious as is, or serve with whipped Cream or a smooth Custard.
