Tobacco Rice from Temanggung City, Indonesia

Are you a smoker? Have you ever tasted tobacco? If not, you should try this one food.

This is a typical food of Temanggung City, Central Java, Indonesia. His name is "Sego Mbako" or in English, it means Tobacco Rice.

This food is served in a bamboo box. Inside is white rice wrapped in banana leaves, beef, "tobacco vegetables", and fresh vegetables. One box sells for IDR 20,000 or $1.39.

The rice tasted fluffy and fragrant because it was wrapped in banana leaves. The beef is tender and easy to bite, the taste is also sweet and rich in spices. While "vegetable tobacco" tastes savory and sweet, somewhat reminiscent of fried onions, but sweeter.

Of course, this is not real tobacco. These are dried vegetables that are finely chopped and cooked until they are dry and resemble tobacco for cigarettes. Temanggung is known as one of the largest tobacco-producing cities in Indonesia (or even in the world?).

Fried Pentol With Spicy Mayonaise

Pentol is one of the famous snacks in Indonesia. Usually, pentol sellers are easy to find in front of elementary schools.

Pentol is made from ground chicken mixed with tapioca flour, wheat flour, eggs, and spices. The pentol dough that has been kneaded is then stabbed on a bamboo skewer, covered with breadcrumbs, then fried them.

Fried Chicken Dumpling with Chilli Sauce

It's just a regular fried dumpling. The only difference is the sambal. It tastes like sambal terasi, but also tastes like Thai sauce.

I can't describe it, but trust me, it tastes good. My favorite snack in this round, so far.

Baslorlung

Baslorlung is an abbreviation of meatball egg rolls. In short, these are meatballs cut into pieces, skewered onto bamboo skewers, then deep-fried with eggs. The texture can be obtained from very hot oil and the deep-fry method.

The meatballs are chewy, coated with a savory egg, making this food feel right to eat while relaxing. This food is suitable to be enjoyed while drinking hot tea or coffee in the afternoon.

Flipped Tofu

Okay, it's kinda hard to describe it. In Indonesia, besides the original white-tofu, they also have "fried tofu". It's like white tofu, but with thick brown skin. Don't imagine it as deep-fried tofu, okay.

We used that brown tofu to make flipped tofu. First, you must cat the tofu, and turning them inside out, vice versa. And then, you filled it with mixed tapioca flour, flour, and seasoning. After that, steam briefly, then fry in hot oil until dry. And voila!

They are so many ways to eat flipped tofu, and it suits with all kinds of sauce! Perfect snack!
