Discovering the Best Baked Chicken Rice at Sing HK Kitchen

For just S$6.80, this is the best-baked chicken rice I've ever had!

What's fascinating about this meal is the portion size of the chicken. It's unreal to think that it's so affordable, yet the quantity is about four times the usual serving size of Hainanese chicken rice. I initially thought there was a mistake with my order because it seemed like the meal was meant for two people to share.

I ordered my food from Sing HK Kitchen, a Hong Kong-style restaurant specializing in braised meats. According to my research, many customers rave about the delicious, flavorsome, and affordable food here. Most dishes are priced under S$10, with popular items around S$7.

Among the tempting options on their menu, the baked chicken rice caught my eye. I'm used to the taste of roasted or steamed chicken rice, so my curiosity was piqued when I saw this unique item.

As I mentioned, the portion size of the chicken is quite generous, and I initially thought the balance between the rice and meat was off.

At first, I had doubts about the taste, so I tasted the chicken to compare it to the local popular chicken rice version. The exterior of the meat is slightly tough from being baked in the oven, but the inside is tender and juicy. The seasoning is unfamiliar but delightful, with hints of star anise or possibly Chinese Five Spice.

It's delicious, flavorsome, and very satisfying. I will definitely return to this stall to try their famous braised pork belly!

As a bonus, I got myself a classic cheese tart as my dessert :).

My journey to the world of food.
