HOMEMADE POTATO GNOCCI// GNOCCI DE PAPA HECHO EN CASA [En/Sp]

Mi publicación.jpeg

HIve there, hola a todos!!!

After reminiscing about an amazing place in the previous post that I shared in a community that I love and missed a lot, I'm back here with another recipe.

This is a very traditional dish in Argentina, with origins in Italy and clearly brought to these lands by immigrants.
It is a very cheap recipe to make and perhaps this explains the reason for a deep-rooted custom in our country, and that is that there is a special date on which it is customary to eat this dish, it is the 29th of each month. Then I will tell you where this tradition comes from.

First I will show you step by step how to make them and I hope you are encouraged to try them!

WHAT WILL YOU NEED? // QUE VAS A NECESITAR?

ENGESP
- 1 kg of potatoes.
- 1 egg.
- 300 gr of flour.
- 2 teaspoons of salt.
- Pepper to taste.
- 1 kg de papas.
- 1 huevo.
- 300 gr de harina.
- 2 cditas de sal.
- Pimienta a gusto.

AND NOW WHAT? // Y AHORA QUE?

Gnocchi, or "gnocci" as they are called, are considered a dough, so to make them we will need to form a dough.

First take the potatoes, wash them well and cut a slit in the skin all around forming a cross at the ends. We will cook them with the skin on because we don't want them to absorb too much water, the cuts in the skin will make it easier to peel them once they are cooked.

Bring them to boiling water. Cooking time will depend on the size of the potatoes. They will be ready when you can easily pierce them with a knife.

Español
Llévalas a agua hirviendo.

Peel and mash them until they are as smooth as possible.

Add the previously beaten egg and integrate with the flour until a smooth and uniform dough is formed.
I suggest that you add the flour in two or three batches, because the amount of water absorbed by the potatoes may vary and depending on this, the amount of flour you need will vary, it may be a little more or a little less. We will always prefer to add flour and not liquids.

Siempre preferiremos necesitar agregar harina y no líquidos.

Shape the dough into long thin sausages about 2 or 3 cm in diameter.
Cut small pieces of 2 cm approx.

To give them texture you can use a fork, simply squeezing and rolling each little piece of gnocchi, although this step is not strictly necessary. Some say that the texture is so that the sauce is better impregnated in each piece.
Produce by leaving them on a floured plate and do not let them touch each other.

Pour them in boiling water and stir them gently with a wooden spoon or a skimmer. They are ready when they begin to float.
Strain and add sauce. I heated the sauce with the gnocchi in it!

⭕️ WHY IS IT A TRADITION TO EAT GNOCCI ON THE 29TH OF EVERY MONTH?// POR QUE ES TRADICION COMER GNOCCI EL 29 DE CADA MES???

It is worth mentioning that a detail that has been lost lately is to place a bill under each dish served.

🔶 One of the versions tells the story of a pilgrim doctor who practiced several miraculous cures in Northern Italy and on a certain occasion on July 29th he asked the peasants for some bread, who offered him the gnocchi they had left. When the young doctor retired, he announced to the peasants an excellent year of fishing and harvests. Then they found coins under his plate.

🔶 Another version, and the one I like the most, says that at the end of the month, people with few resources only had enough money for these ingredients. The wealthiest Italians invited their less fortunate compatriots to lunch and together with the plate of gnocchi they slipped some coins to help them until they received their next salary.
