FOODlog #378: Local Vegetable Stir Fry

Vegetable day!

Lots of vegetables for lunch with a little meat in some of them to make it more flavorful. My mum bought these dishes from one of our favorite "economic rice" stalls which are basically stalls that cook Chinese dishes where you can pick what you like. Those that we picked today might be uncommon in places outside of South East Asia but its very common here in Malaysia and some have expertly mastered the way of cooking this dishes.

We got sweet potato leaves that's cooked with some slices of red chili and garlic. I really like sweet potato leaves. Really yummy.

Another dish was bittergourd cooked with fermented black beans and onions. Another dish that's a favorite Chinese dish. One of the ways to make it less bitter is to soak the bitter gourd in salt. It'll extract the bitterness and when you stir fry them, it'll be left with the natural sweetness from the bitter gourd. The taste is very unique and delicious when it's well prepared.

Haven't eaten these dishes in awhile so it was a real treat to have them today for dinner. Ate these dished with white rice 👍😊
