Vietnamese Cuisine Among The World 👍1️⃣

Hi Hive Friends,

How is your Monday going? I hope you will not get overloaded with work at the beginning of the week and still have time to enjoy my food sharing ;)

After struggling with too many food ideas to share, I decided to write about one of the most delicious street food (also traditional food), bånh xèo which you are able to make in your kitchen as well.

Like a lot of Vietnamese traditional food, bánh xèo originally comes from French food inspiration during our occupation time. It looks the same galette but Asian taste without cheese 😜

This type of pancake crossing thru our S-shape country has its own specialties. Let me take you through Vietnam with this street food 😋

  • Banh Xeo (BĂĄnh xèo) in Hanoi
Actually, Hanoi is not the motherland of this pancake but there are still many places selling it. Its crispy and juicy taste among shrimp and meat, and fresh vegetables are the best choice for Hanoian in Summer.
Here are recommended shops that you must try,
  1. Bánh xèo Sáu Phước 74 Cau Dat, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi
Price: around 12.000 VND (around 0.52201 USD 😱 super cheap right?)
The shop opens from 10:30 am to 8:30 pm
  2. Bånh xèo Zón Pancake
Price: the same Bánh xèo Sáu Phước
Opening time: even longer from 8 am to 9 pm

All these northern addresses, the pancakes are looked like the central pancake, which is small in size and foldable in rice cakes with many seasonal vegetables.

  • BĂĄnh xèo Miᝁn Trung - Central Pancake

We can't miss the central part of Vietnam for this pancake. In each area there is an own famous recipe to attract locals, for example, when you go to Hue, you must try Quan Hanh . the pancake here is not oily and very crispy. They use special soy sauces made by their own chef every day. It's fresh and you cannot keep it overnight.
In Danang, we also have our own favorite place which is very famous for a tourist like Bånh Xèo bà Dưᝥng, however, I prefer the taste of Bånh xèo Hai Lúa. The cook uses extra coconut fresh milk inside and a lot of different fresh vegetables and even mustard leave which like more than using rice pancake to wrap. The price is even cheaper, almost around 30 cents for one pancake, super cheaper for snack food here.

Bånh Xèo Miᝁn Tây - Southern Pancake

I think the southern people are more creative in food than other areas of Vietnam. I remember my trip in Can Tho city I had a chance to experience one of the most authentic Bånh xèo restaurants where they make this special food in a different color with plant-based ingredients like butterfly pea flower for violet, turmeric for orange, pineapple leaves for green, etc.

Restaurant Name: Ẩm Th᝹c Ven Sông
Address: 88/79 Cåch Mấng Thång 8 - Ninh Kieu, Can Tho
Price: 15,000 vnđ / one (around 0.80 USD - still cheap to go)

Another thing that makes a plus mark for the southern pancake is its huge size. Usually, it's double size compared with bånh xèo in other provinces as locals use special pans to cook. This type of pan also makes the cake thinner and less fat oil.

Though each religion of Vietnam has its own unique way of making bánh xèo become one of the most specialties, the ingredients are almost the same, consisting of shrimps, some slice of pork, bean sprouts together with bánh xeò flour frying on the non-sticked pan. You can find how to make it at home here. Good luck and please share with me some photos if you make it 😘
Thank you for reading and much 💕
