Watermelon Steamed Bloom Cake


Hello every one!

Today my mother in law gave me 3 pcs watermelon, which she got from her friend. Then my husband asked me to make watermelon juice, because the weather is very hot and watermelon is a fruit that is high in water content and I think this is a good idea.
After I make watermelon juice, it seems to need a snack that is sweet and easy to be processed. I think to cook a snack like Watermelon.
I saw all of the ingredients there at home, it turns out I have a wheat flour, eggs and a few other ingredients that can be processed into watermelon steamed bloom cake (kue kukus mekar semangka in indonesia).
When my mom was alive, she never taught me to make a steamed cake this way of processing is also very easy. Usually a bloom cake is liked kids, because it has good taste and a soft.

Let's check out the recipe to make a steamed cake!


  • 250gr All purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 150 gr sugar
  • 1 tsp emulsifier SP
  • 1 tsp vanili extract
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder (i use Baking powder double acting)
  • 65 ml coconut milk
  • 100 ml of water
  • Food coloring red and green
  • Chia seed
  • Salt
  • Paper muffin


How to make a watermelom steamed cake:

  • Strain the flour and then set aside
  • Combine 2 eggs with 150 gr of sugar, stir and set aside.



  • Then enter the flour, baking powder, emulsifier SP, salt, vanili extract coconut milk and water.



  • Beat with a mixer for 15 - 20 minutes until the dough is fluffy and stiff.



  • Divide into 3 sections of dough, then give the food coloring for each dough.



  • Enter into paper muffin one by one color, starting with the colors green, white and red.

  • Sprinkle chia seed over the dough


  • Preheat the steamer for 15 minutes
  • Put the mixture into the steamer for 15 minutes (the dough into bloom) then remove from heat and set aside.


  • Watermelon steamed bloom cake ready to serve
