Introducing "Pancit Bihon" - An All-time Favorite Noodle Dish from my Country

Greetings!

Today, I am going to introduce to you one of the all-time noodle dishes in my country, it is called "Pancit" or "Pansit". It is a very simple dish with simple ingredients and is easy to prepare too. It is an all-time favorite because it is commonly cooked for ordinary day snacks to birthdays, Christmas, New Year, and any day of the year. It's how versatile this dish is, you can even call it dish for all seasons.

Pancit or Pansit is brought by Chinese immigrants to the Philippines centuries ago. And from then on, Filipinos incorporate Pancit in their own cuisine making it more Filipino style. There are now wide varieties of the dish. Noodles sizes used to cook Pancit also have many varieties. Pancit noodle is commonly made with rice.

Ingredients

  • Pancit Bihon (3 tablets of Pancit Bihon)
  • Chicken (for soup/stock)
  • Carrot
  • Cabbage
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Soy Sauce
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Cooking oil

PREPARATION



1. Peel and slice the carrots into strips, then wash

2. Was the cabbage then slice into strips then wash again

3. Peel and slice the onion

5. Ready the Pancit Bihon noodles (3 Tablets)

COOKING



1. Wash and boil the chicken for the stock

2. After boiling the chicken set aside the stock

3. Shred the boiled chicken into strips

4. Sautee the cabbage and the carrots together using some cooking oil, onion, and garlic, set aside when cooked

5. Sautee the shredded chicken using some cooking oil, onion, and garlic

6. Add the chicken stock (approximately 750 ml), add additional 750 ml of water, then let it boil

7. Add 50 ml of soy sauce, add salt to taste, adjust the taste by adding more salt

8. When it starts to boil add 3 tablets of Bihon, let it boil until all the soup is absorbed by the noodles, stir occasionally to loosen up the noodles, and also to let the noodles cooked evenly. (IMPORTANT: Most commercial pancit bihon noodle have an instruction on how much water is needed for each tablet of pancit bihon)

9. This is how it would look like when all the soup has been absorbed by the noodles
