Scent leaf is a kind of plant that is common in Nigeria and some other countries around the world. It is called "Efinrin" in Yoruba, "Doddo Ya" in Hausa and "Nchanwu" in Igbo tribes of Nigeria. It is usually planted in farms or gardens in the house for the purpose of cooking and other medical purposes.
It is used as a spice for food due its unique aroma that it gives food. It is a vegetable that have a unique aroma and taste that makes any food which it is added a delight. Not only does scent leaf make food tasty, it also have some health benefits as it is used to treat diseases and prevent infections. It is rich in iron, calcium, vitamin A which are highly needed for a healthy body.
Scent leaf is used to prepare pepper soup, Jollof rice, porridge yam, stew, peppered chicken, nkwobi, isi ewu, porridge beans and so on. Some people also use it to prepare their ogbono soup, egusi soup. It can be used with other vegetables or used alone.
The leaf is highly medicinal and rich in vitamin A, iron, potassium, calcium etc. It is used to reduce menstrual pain, fights against cold and catarrh, stomach illnesses such as cholera, dysentery. It also helps to improve good eyesight as a result of its Vitamin A component. It also aids quick digestion of food and enables easy bowel evacuation.
It also contains properties that improve penile health and improve erections in men due to boosting sperm vitality.
No wonder the people who knows all the health benefits that it offers would always want to have this all-round medicinal plant around them.
