Meet Sally - Our Homegrown and Much Loved Sourdough Starter.

Sally.jpg
The photo above is of Sally! Sally is the name we have given to our sourdough starter. She does require regular attention and maintenance, but if you look after her and feed her regularly, she brings much joy and happiness.

The two cob loaves positioned next to her in the photo are evidence of her tasty wonder. In this post, I have included a few more photos of the creations that have originated from our Sally sourdough starter.

First up is the before photo of some freshly shaped bagels that are resting before they are placed in a pre-heated oven for a cook time of about 25 minutes.

When you hear the oven go 'DING', take them out to see the end result. As you can see from the photo, the bagels are now crisp on the outside, chewy and fluffy on the inside, and they are full of flavour.

I am not the cook in the family, so if you are interested in the recipe for these bad boys and the method to prepare them, please drop a comment below and I will get the information from my wife and share it with you in a future post. I can assure you they were delicious! As an added bonus you can freeze them, then toast them for breakfasts, so the enjoyment can last for weeks.

Next up is a dish that my wife loves to put together for a quick and easy breakfast. They are sourdough fritters that are made straight from the starter in a frying pan with coconut oil. Mix in some shredded chicken and shallots and you have a savoury morsel that is crunchy on the outside but still soft on the inside. Complement it with a soy sauce mixture of your fancy and you will be taken to a happy place.

For the last entry, those of you who have been following my posts will be familiar with the next photo. You can read the previous post here. It is a sourdough focaccia loaf topped with lemongrass, garlic and olives. I cannot rave enough about how good this was straight out of the oven with melted butter. The oven-baked smell was sensational. You can see Sally the starter proudly in the background witnessing her latest creation.
