Balance in Life - Getting Back in Balance and Keeping in Balance...

Something that keeps popping up for me is the need for balance. Balance in work and play, online time and offline time, keeping a balance between my ideals and reality plus generally a balanced state of mind.

I find being in balance means intentionally be present under any given circumstance no matter how hard it is.

I have some useful tips on finding and keeping balance from an old PLR article I had stashed on my computer that I found very helpful and I hope you do too.

Balance Work and Play

"If you’re all work and no play, you may have a degree of success but it can lead to burn out. If you do anything for too long, burn out will surely follow. Here are a few tips to keep the scales balanced. This is especially good if you have made a switch to working at home.

"• Choose your time to work and stick to it. Make sure to schedule breaks. I find working in two hour stretches then taking a half hour break where I get completely away for my work or if I'm trying to keep a balance from screen time and off screen time a complete break from that is being outside in nature.
• Also decide, how much if at all, time you will spend on work after hours (for example taking calls during family time, checking work emails at home during off hours, etc.)
• Leave work at work. If you are working at home having a designate area for work like an office space. This makes it easier to drop work when you are done with your working hours."

If you learn to prioritize your work schedule it seems to have the benefit of your home life running smoother too.

"Even as adults we need our free time or play time so schedule this in also. Be intentional about your time, understanding that when it’s over, it’s time to let it go. Playing for too long can lead to procrastination and loss of structure."

Even 5-minute play breaks doing things like walking in fresh air, taking some deep breaths and taking a moment to recenter yourself, experiencing the coming in and going out of your breath and all that your senses are taking in. Doing some journalling with quiet reflective time can be a good break too. These seem to help energize your spirit.

Other ways to achieve balance:

-Feel your emotions and move quickly through them – it’s perfectly fine to become emotional when the roller coaster of life gets too fast and too furious. Feel what you need to feel but move quickly on to the next step. That next step is action.
-If there were negative emotions no need to sit and stew about what happened, it is within your power to take appropriate time and recreate what happens next to pull yourself out of the downs of life and onto an upward direction.
-If you find yourself faced with a problem, take the energy needed to create some sort of answer rather than dwell only on the issue at hand. We all use energy to get through the day's events. However, we get to choose how much energy is spent on each project. Look at your life, what is going well? You may have successes in certain areas where you spend a lot of your time and energy. Be aware that if you spend to much time and energy in just one area the rest of your life may be out of balance. Exercise spreading evenly that time and energy through different areas of your life gaining more balance.

Sometimes, the unexpected can throw you off. How do you hit the reset button when life throws you a curve and knocks you off balance? Sometimes truthfully, no matter how hard we try not to dwell on something, we fall back into patterns of thinking and talking about something. Perhaps this is the time to call a friend to get you unstuck and back to present moment status.

Sometimes all it takes is someone to remind you that, in this present moment, you are fine and all is well. You might not have the answers to what will happen in the future, but anything is possible.

You get to choose where your energy and focus will go. Make a choice that seems best in the moment, a choice with the information you have in front of you and take action steps toward that choice.

It is okay to be out of balance. Sometimes there’s a big project at work or a special event at home. You are out of balance because that event or project takes priority but know it will eventually be over and things get back to normal and all that will soon be nothing but a distant memory.

More tips to get yourself in gear for a more balanced life:

"• Put yourself on the calendar.
• Don’t sweat the small stuff.
• Let go of what you can’t control.
• Expand on the positive and minimize the negative so you can enjoy life more.
• Start new habits. It takes only a couple of weeks to create new habits and once they are in place, they will stick.
• If you backslide, it’s okay. Let yourself off the hook and start again. Pick up where you left off.
• Don’t look at major projects like a mountain. Climb one step at a time. Before you know it, you’ll reach your objective.
• Laugh at your mistakes.
• Don’t beat yourself up so much.
• Make time to meet your needs. Take a catnap, go for a walk, get some fresh air, write in your journal, or chat with a friend.
• Fine-tune your scheduling to meet your responsibilities to others, as well as yourself."

Get the momentum going then keep moving towards a life you truly love!
I'm grateful to Crissy Herron for coming up with these tips and providing it as PLR so I can share them with you!
