Lotus Garden Newsletter for Homesteaders. 12th May 2021

Can you believe, we're already halfway through May? Did you get a garden journal entry in for the early May Garden Journal challange? Even if you didn't, there are lots of delightful gardens to read about to get your horticultural fix.

Things happening in the community.

As a celebration of their new branch, LOTUS Indonesia, @naturalmedicine has an Indonesian medicinal plants challenge open to all Hive.

Some highlights of the week

@canadianrenegade has a little ramble about starting seeds, discussing the results different methods have had over the years and planting timelines.

Livestock and parasites can tend to go hand in hand, but with the right plants and environment it doesn't have to end up a problem. @buckaroobaby discusses how keeping the herb garden and chicken habitat side by side makes for healthier chickens and keeps those blood suckers at bay.

In true homesteading fashion, @barge has been preparing the garden and planting potatoes using as much of the freely available resources around him as possible. The jury's still out on the effectiveness of the dog proof fence, though. You can also catch his recent update here.

I love to see and try different foods, so @shielashraf's Filipino sweet, bilo bilo, caught my eye. It looks pretty easy to swap out some of the ingredients to adapt to personal dietary requirements as well.

Each week one of our featured authors will be selected to be a 5% beneficiary of The Lotus Garden newsletter. This week @barge will receive this award.

Thank you for stopping by. This week's newsletter was brought to you by @minismallholding.
