Calculating the Birth Chart, and mixing Oracles with it!

image.png

Hello, dear readers! Welcome to another edition of The Orrery! Has November been sufficiently revealing to you yet? We have a lot of movement this week, many events that were eagerly expected by those of us who keep an eye on planetary transitions, have already taken place in the past couple of days: the third and last perfect conjunction between Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn took place on Thursday 12th, while Mars went direct in Aries this Friday 13th. Also, this Sunday 15th we have our penultimate New Moon of 2020 in Scorpio.

In this entry, and inspired by a question left by @mamrita in my previous post, I'll give you the simple instructions to calculate your own Birth Chart. I also thought it would be nice if I started exploring other oracles now that I already went over the basic concepts of Astrology, so I'll provide a short reading of the aforementioned events using my ever reliable Runes.

Let's get to it!

So, if you're interested in calculating your own Birth Chart, it's quite easy to do. You just need your exact time of birth (this is usually the time recorded in your birth certificate, although your parents' memory could potentially be a more accurate source of information) and the location where you were born. You can then visit one of the many chart calculators out there and input that data. My go to pages for this are Astro Dienst and Astro-seek. You can also calculate your chart without the time of birth, but you won't get access to the Houses or the Angles, although most of the placements will remain nearly unchanged. Below you can see my Birth Chart (extracted from Astro) with and without time of birth.

After your calculation, you can then check the pages themselves for in-depth explanations of the placements, include the current transits to see how they interact with those placements, find the meanings for each of them or ask an Astrologer to interpret them for you. All calculators also have the option to show more data, adding other asteroids beside Chiron, and mathematical points such as Lilith or Fortuna. All of these make the Chart more complex, but may also facilitate interpretation.

If you want to try this on your own, I've discussed the basics in my previous entries, which you can find here: Orrery 1 - Introduction to Astrology, Orrery 2 - Retrogrades and Aspects, Orrery 3 -Hemispheres, Quadrants and Angles.

Using the Chart with other Oracles

image.png

Astrology, Oneiromancy (dream work), Cartomancy (working with decks of cards), Chiromancy (hand reading) and any other form of divination are simply methods to identify and interpret the energies of the Present Moment. They may involve a historical revision or even seem to predict the future, but since everything happens in the Now, that's what all of these practices actually deal with.

Mixing these methods isn't necessary to obtain important information, but it may be useful in order to corroborate that information or to extract specific details which aren't readily available just by looking at a Chart. There are also correlations between all of these tools that can be interesting to study. For instance, Leo is frequently associated with the Strength card and the Runes Hagalaz and Nauthiz, while Scorpio may be associated with Death or The Devil and the Runes Algiz and Sowelo. But bear in mind that these associations aren't fixed or precise, they depend on the source you consult and, by their very nature, they're not thorough.

To conclude this edition, I'll give you a mixed reading of the current transits using my Runes. If you have access to other Oracles, you can also do your own reading to complement what you find here. For your weekly fix on these topics, you can also follow @traciyork's Tuesday Tarot readings, @tarot911's Horoscopes or @in2itiveart's detailed Aurographs, just to name some of the Hive users providing these kinds of services at the moment.

Runic Reading for the New Moon and the Transits

Chart for November 14th, 2020, extracted from Astro

The Great Conjunction in Capricorn - Jupiter and Pluto perfectly join energies one last time this year, with Saturn on its way to Aquarius. The process of general systemic collapse receives one more outstanding boost. However, the tide is shifting, and the paradigm shift has already started. While the status quo implodes and the dirt of financial and political elites rises to the surface, a new form of social order is taking the lead.

Ingwaz.png

Ingwaz speaks of the great potential for growth in all endeavors we start now. We must be wary of our urges, especially our desire to impose our will on others. This is a time to reconsider any male-driven projects, to look at the world from a more emotional point of view instead of attempting to force a return to normality that is no longer possible. We must strive to pay attention to the messages of our intuition, our journey demands a deeper revision of ego-based judgment. Plant the seeds that you want, and do water the earth that it may spring with new life, but avoid any intent to control how this process takes place.

Mars goes direct in Aries - Mars is in its sign and it's been retrograde until this Friday. When a planet goes direct, it exerts powerful, tangible and quite visible influence on the world, and no planet is as potent an initiator as Mars. This is a moment where authority will have to deal with rebellion on all fronts, open questioning and disregard for present order. At a personal level, this may mean that our bodies will increase the demand of energy, forcing us to change diet and patterns. Children rebel against the rules imposed by adults, not merely with arguments but with clear actions. Patrons may see employees demanding better salaries and working conditions, even to the point of mass resignations. Aries is the sign of Survival and assertion of the Self. The voices of dissatisfaction and dissidence will not be silenced.

Nauthiz.png

Nauthiz indicates urgency, a pressing need for a radical change of course. If you have been going to the North, now it is time to look at the South. Do not remain tied down into positions that you find uncomfortable or displeasing, this is the time to reinvent yourself, to cut lose from sources of despair and pain, to end professional and personal relationships that are draining you of your potential. If you do not balance your requirements with the prices that you are paying, nobody else will; if you fail to seek the answers by force of habit or laziness, you shall remain ignorant, for there is none who will stake any worth on you.

New Moon in Scorpio on November 15th - As you know, New Moons are the start of new cycles, and this one brings us to the very essence of Transformation. Think of it as a portal into the deepest recesses of your psyche. This is certainly not a time for games, but it's not a time for dread either. The terror has passed, now we must cleanse ourselves, purify our intentions, turn the page and start drawing a new picture for ourselves, for our internal worlds and the reality around us. Go straight to the most basic aspects of any situation you're currently experiencing, don't tarry or get sucked into distractions, do exactly what you have to do, even if it seems extreme right now. You'll appreciate the value later.

Laguz.png

Laguz speaks quite clearly of water, of tears that must be shed for cleansing and rivers that must be set to flow freely. Break the dams, repress nothing, love passionately, explore the sensuous experience, give into the sexual intimacy that you are craving for. Regret is pointless and so is doubt, you are setting a new course for yourself and as said above, attempting to control the tide is a fool's errand. The abundance of energy is such that you will feel boundless, but beware, in this material existence you still need definitions. Even the great ocean has shores, all streams have limits. Blood cannot flow in a body without veins to contain them.

That's all for now, my friends! Thank you for taking the time to read and I hope the interpretation I've provided here will help you make the most of this time of reaffirmation of your selves. I've set @miriannalis as a 5% beneficiary for this post, for her amazing post on living in the Present Moment.
