Blackthorn and rosehips

Blackthorn:

It belongs to the family of roses and can be found all over Europe and of course in Hungary.
It is one of the most common plants because it is lacking only in the northernmost part of Europe and on the island of Iceland. It is a bush plant found almost everywhere on forest edges, on the edge of pastures, on the borders of cultivated areas and agricultural areas, on bushy, sloping sides. We have wild blackthorn in Hungary, but it is grown as crops in Eastern Europe.

Healing effects of blackthorn:

Its drug is given by its flowers, which can be picked in April, and the fruits collected in October. The scald made of dried flowers can be used against diuretics, mild laxatives, urinary tract diseases. Its vitamin C-rich fruits are picked in late October when they have been slightly bitten by the hoarfrost. An excellent robor, immune system and nerve booster after diseases made from fruit jam, wine, brandy or liqueur. It has a fat-reducing effect and is essential for dieting. Due to its detoxifying and blood cleansing effect, it can also be used to eliminate skin rashes.

I took a two-liter bucket full of berries. I took a two-liter bucket full of berries, took it home and made some syrup, soaked it in brandy. It is good to drink with a glass. Or two. Or threee..... 🤣 Just have to be careful not to get drunk from it!

Blackthorn liqueur:

Blackthorn fruits harvested with laborious work are washed and dried. Put about 1.5 kg of ripe blackthorn in a jar, add 1.5 kg of sugar, mix well. Season with 4-5 bars of cinnamon, 2 bars of half-cut vanilla, pour 40 percent diluted pharmacy alcohol or real fruit brandy. Mature for 5-6 weeks and then filter. On cold winter days, a small glass of blackthorn liqueur warms you up, you can put it in sauces with grilled meats or you can offer guests a dessert.
(Patxaran blackthorn liqueur produced in the Navarra area of Spain is famous.)

Well, let's see the flaming red rosehips now!

Rosehip is a medicinal pseudo-crop of wild rose and Japanese rose. Wild rose is a common prickly shrub in Europe.

Healing effect

Mild diuretic. It regulates the permeability of blood vessels, strengthens blood vessel walls, thereby accelerating blood flow. Therefore, it can be used for the prevention and treatment of vasoconstriction and atherosclerosis. It also contains vitamins A, B1, B2, P and K, but is of course best known for its high vitamin C content.

In its fruit, rosehip is legendarily high in vitamin C, in a small berry more than in a large lemon! Therefore, it should not be boiled, as vitamin C is broken down by heat. An important source of winter vitamins to prevent colds.
Lace has a beneficial effect on diabetes, regulates blood sugar levels. Diabetics consume it after meals as it helps digest fat. It has an immune-boosting effect, especially recommended for stress relief, and for smokers because smoking removes a lot of vitamin C from the body. It calms the nerves, has a general strengthening effect. Vitamin C participates in the regulation of oxidation processes, strengthens the walls of blood vessels, strengthens connective tissue, increases the body's defenses and resistance to infections and diseases. It helps strengthen bones, strength and bone formation.

Herbal tea: its regular daily consumption in the autumn-winter period - due to the immune-boosting effect of rosehip - helps prevent infections, colds, colds. Due to its blood sugar regulating effect, it is also recommended for diabetics, consumed with a cup after a meal.

If possible, consume it without flavoring. You can drink 2-3 cups a day for an unlimited time. It can also be used during pregnancy and lactation. It can be given to children from 1 year of age diluted (one teaspoon of rosehip for 2.5 dl of water). Tea made from fresh flowers is an excellent laxative. Medicinal wine: Rosehip wine is an excellent home remedy, especially in old age, against irregular bladder and kidney function.

Other uses: jam, liqueur and syrup can also be made from the fruit. For the jam we use lace without seeds and hair. The cleaned raw lace is blended, then an equal amount of honey or sugar is added and stored in the refrigerator.

I picked rosehips with a small bucket, took them home and now put them on a sieve to dry. I'm going to make it for tea in the winter.

The blue and red berries together look beautiful! I took the very first batch in a small box for the sake of the photo, but later I then selectively collected them in separate buckets.
