It's been more than a week ago since I took these pictures to do a blog post but I got carried away with other stuff and ended up leaving them in oblivion. Anyway, nothing too complex today, just a little walk around the place where I've built the shelter and show off some of the plants I'm trying to introduce into the place, as well as those that are already there.
Hace más de una semana que tomé estas fotos para hacer una entrada de blog pero me dejé llevar por otras cosas y terminé dejándolas en el olvido. De todos modos, nada demasiado complejo hoy, solo un pequeño paseo por el lugar donde construí el refugio y mostrar algunas de las plantas que estoy tratando de introducir en el lugar, así como las que ya están ahí.
This typical succulent was gifted by a friend and was gorgeous before it was attacked by my sister's pup, Kali. I don't know what it is with this tendency lately to name dogs after chaotic deities such as Kali or Lilith, but boy do I find it funny when they start breaking shit apart and I tell people: "don't complain after you named her that".
Esta típica suculenta fue regalada por una amiga y era hermosa antes de ser atacada por la cachorra de mi hermana, Kali. No sé cual es la idea de esta tendencia últimamente de nombrar a los perros como deidades caóticas como Kali o Lilith, pero me parece gracioso cuando empiezan a romper todo y le digo a la gente: "no te quejes después de que nombrarle así".
This little tree was in a place where it was likely to get stepped on so I gave it a new, safer home. It seems like it might be a cherry tree.

Basil looking strong. Also gifted by a friend and she grew it indoors so I'm not sure if it will adapt outside. It's been there a while and still looks pretty healthy to me!

Rosemary and oregano. I've never been able to make rosemary thrive, but I'm hoping this time it'll go well. I've been told it needs lots of sunlight and not too much water. Keeping that in mind and trusting for the best.

There's a huge abundance of these yellow raspberries. I've eaten tons of them and now the rest will probably feed the birds and soil as I still haven't been able to set up a proper alchemy lab where to make new products out of them 😅

Cutting some grass to make room for other plants I found this ribwort plantain. I know it's a fairly common weed, but in this particular terrain, I haven't seen much. Definitely leaving it there so that it can reproduce as I value it's medicinal properties and would like to make tinctures from it.

This summer has been very strange, too many cloudy days, too much rain, too much wind, not enough sun. The prunes are coming but very slowly, so just have to be patient until they can become ripe.

Kalanchoe is a wonderful plant I thought to be just valued because of its promotion on mainstream media. However, it's generous as it gives off a lot of offspring, resistant to the weather conditions, very good tasting, and offers a wide array of health benefits.

A friend brought some knotweed the other day to make tea, but since it still had it's root I tried putting it back on the soil. It started getting greener during some time like you can see in the picture but today I checked it and it dried out. It was an unnecessary experiment because now that I know the plant I've found it abundantly at the side of the roads. It's also got tons of health benefits, including cleaning the blood from toxins.

These apples are ripe when they are green! Funny how you'd expect the red to be a sign of ripeness but this time it's the other way around. Right now they are edible but to sour for many, though by the end of February they should be quite sweet.

Same story for cherries, quite the bad summer. There is also the fact that the place has been neglected for long and there are too many trees giving shadow to the rest, which stops the fruit from becoming ripe. It seems I will have lots of work to do this autumn.

Finally, this is another little experiment... I was sprouting lentils to eat the sprouts but they overgrew and I figured I would try placing them on the soil, to see how they did. It might be a little too late for them to make it all the way to fruiting, but at least they will generate new interactions with the soil, fixate nitrogen, and provide biomass with new nutrients to this ecosystem.
Finalmente, este es otro pequeño experimento ... Estaba brotando lentejas para comer los brotes, pero crecieron demasiado y pensé que probaría colocarlas en el suelo, para ver cómo les iba. Puede que sea un poco demasiado tarde para que lleguen hasta la fructificación, pero al menos generarán nuevas interacciones con el suelo, fijarán nitrógeno y proporcionarán biomasa con nuevos nutrientes a este ecosistema.
