We pay so we don't have to pay

I've told you a lot about the Narrative and the illusory nature of this material world, about how important it is to explore our stories in order to free ourselves from them. A friend once shared with me a saying that she heard from a native shaman: "We take medicine to understand that we don't need to take medicine," meaning that in spiritual paths we work and study just to realize that we're not and have never been sick or incomplete, and exactly the same thing can be said about suffering: we suffer while we're not aware that life is simple and the Universe is loving by default, once we reach that awareness, we understand that suffering was never real but, paradoxically, arriving to that understanding implies navigating our pain to its essence, after which point pain vanishes.

Reading the plot of this mortal existence is like dismantling a clock, see how it's designed, the position of each gear and how they work together. As we go deeper into the mechanism, we start realizing that the clock is just a metaphor that ultimately blocks our senses and unnecessarily complicates our experience, but if we didn't have that metaphor, finding that simple Truth would perhaps be impossibe, like reaching the top of a tower without stairs.

This is the use of the Narrative, it allows us to deconstruct the illusions in our inner self in order to get to the essential core where no narrative is necessary and we can merely be. To make it even clearer, I'll use my own metaphor for those who are familiar with the world of online gaming: when we first enter a massive multiplayer game, we often have a free trial that allows us to have some experience of entertainment, but then we must pay in order to access the full version with all the options, while life is the opposite: we arrive to this world with loads that we must pay, wounds that we must heal, experiencing a trial version of life filled with restrictions, but as we progress, if we've done the proper work, the payments start declining until we access the true vital experience, which is and always has been free.

Pagamos para no tener que pagar

Les he hablado mucho de la Narrativa y la naturaleza ilusoria de este mundo material, de lo importante que es explorar nuestras historias para liberarnos de ellas. Una amiga me compartió una vez un dicho que le escuchó a un chamán indígena: "Uno toma medicina para entender que no es necesario tomar medicina", es decir, en caminos espirituales trabajamos y estudiamos para darnos cuenta de que no estamos y nunca hemos estado enfermos o incompletos, y exactamente lo mismo se puede decir del sufrimiento; sufrimos mientras no estamos conscientes de que la vida es sencilla y el Universo es amoroso por defecto, una vez que alcanzamos esa consciencia, comprendemos que el sufrimiento nunca fue real pero, paradójicamente, llegar a esa comprensión implica navegar nuestro dolor hasta su esencia, luego de lo cual el dolor se desvanece.

Leer la trama de esta existencia mortal es como desmantelar un reloj, ver cómo está diseñado, en qué posiciones se encuentran los engranajes y cómo funcionan. A medida que profundizamos en el mecanismo, nos vamos dando cuenta de que el reloj es tan solo una metáfora que, en últimas instancias, estorba nuestros sentidos y complica innecesariamente nuestra experiencia, pero si no tuviésemos la metáfora, encontrar esa Verdad sencilla sería quizás imposible, como llegar al tope de una torre sin escaleras.

Esta es la utilidad de la Narrativa, nos permite desconstruir las ilusiones en nuestro interior para llegar al núcleo esencial donde ninguna narrativa es necesaria y tan solo podemos ser. Para hacerlo incluso más claro, usaré mi propia metáfora para quienes estén familiarizados con el mundo de los juegos en línea: cuando entramos por primera vez a un juego multijugador masivo, con frecuencia tenemos una prueba gratuita que nos permite tener cierta experiencia de entretenimiento, pero luego debemos pagar para acceder a la versión completa con todas las opciones, mientras que en la vida es todo lo contrario: llegamos al mundo con cargas que debemos pagar, heridas que debemos sanar, experimentando una versión de prueba de la vida llena de restricciones, pero a medida que avanzamos, si hemos hecho el trabajo apropiado, los pagos van reduciéndose hasta que accedemos a la verdadera experiencia vital, que es libre y abierta siempre.
