Today we are getting some great growth in our little suburban garden on the deck!
Suburban Gardening
Having a little garden, even if it's just got some herbs, is a really great thing to have. The more we can do to not buy things from the stores, the better! Not just financially but also less toxins since we know what we are putting in the soil, less plastic waste and all kinds of other benefits.
With a recent bout of really sunny, warm weather, we had some great growth in our little sprouts! The flowers here are doing pretty well except for the roses. The roses are a little burnt at the top which hopefully means that they aren't going to die. One thing that I remember that was really interesting in Italy when I was there, farmers would use Roses at the beginning of all of their rows in the fields. When the roses started to be affected, they knew that something was wrong with the soil. With these roses getting a little damaged here, I'm hoping to figure out what's going on with the soil even though it's just a potted plant, I like being able to learn and figure things out related to it!
This plant here is doing really well. I don't know what kind of plant it is, we got these as a "mystery" plant bundle for one of the little kid events that we signed up for recently. It was nice to see that it started growing! I think and hope it will be some kind of tree, not a lot of other plants look like this so I'm thinking it's going to be some type of tree. A deciduous tree would be cool, I don't want to get my hopes up for it though lol.
Our lettuce here is doing really well! We bought a few heads of lettuce and they were initially struggling but with planting them in a bigger pot with some nice soil and fertilizer, they are getting stronger! The tomato plants are getting there, growing albeit a little slowly but it's still doing well!
There is quite a bit growing with our small garden. Most of it has been herbs like basil but now that things are growing, we are starting to see sprouting up some cucumber plants growing in the corners. I've been looking for a few more plants to add to the mix but I have some restrictions on space and if we are going to be moving in the coming months so I don't want to go too crazy on buying stuff lol
