Mi pequeño jardin productivo.(Esp/Eng)My little productive garden

Desde que me jubile, suelo tener mas tiempo para dedicarle a actividades que siempre quise realizar, pues pasaba mucho tiempo en mi trabajo, fuera de mi casa. Una de estas actividades es ocuparme junto con mi esposo, de un pequeño huerto productivo que logramos 'habilitar' donde antes teníamos un jardín con grama en la parte delantera de nuestra casa, ¡aprovechamos hasta la entrada del garaje!.

Since I retire, I usually have more time to dedicate to activities that I always wanted to do, since I spent a lot of time at my work, outside my home. One of these activities is to take care, together with my husband, of a small productive garden that we managed to 'enable' where before we had a garden with grass in the front of our house, we took advantage of the entrance to the garage!

En tiempo de pandemia, donde debemos salir solo lo necesario, esta iniciativa nos ha traído muchas satisfacciones. Todos buscamos una motivación diaria y cultivar nuestras propias hortalizas y hierbas ha sido excelente para ello, pues tenemos que dedicar tiempo y cuidados a las plantas y ese trabajo se convierte en un logro cuando cosechamos lo que atendimos con amor.
Mi amiga Niko, jubilada como yo, también disfruta su 'huerto-conuco' en las montañas mirandinas(Venezuela) y a menudo intercambiamos fotos de nuestras cosechas. Le encantan las plantas y sembrar , ella me inspiró a hacer lo mismo.

In times of pandemic, where we must go out only what is necessary, this initiative has brought us great satisfaction. We all look for a daily motivation and growing our own vegetables and herbs has been excellent for this, because we have to dedicate time and care to the plants and that work becomes an achievement when we harvest what we lovingly tend.
My friend Niko, retired like me, also enjoys hers 'huerto-conuco' hers in the Mirandine mountains (Venezuela) and we often exchange photos of our crops. She loves plants and sowing, she inspired me to do the same.

Cultivar es una labor donde todos tienen cabida: hay que preparar semilleros, trasplantar, sembrar, preparar el abono, limpiar de malezas y plagas y regar. El abono orgánico lo preparamos nosotros mismos, mi esposo se encarga de esa parte y del semillero, yo lo ayudo en el transplante en el caso de plantas que lo requieran (como el tomate, el aji y la berenjena) y demás cuidados que se requieran. El pepino lo sembramos directo en el suelo, sin trasplantar.

Cultivating is a job where everyone has a place: you have to prepare seedbeds, transplant, sow, prepare compost, clean weeds and pests and water. The organic compost we prepare ourselves, my husband takes care of that part and the seedbed, I help him in the transplant in the case of plants that require it (such as tomato, pepper and aubergine) and other care that is required . We sow the cucumber directly into the ground, without transplanting.

Alternamos lo que sembramos en cada ciclo pues nuestro jardín es pequeño. En este momento nos estamos preparando para los nuevos semilleros.También tenemos hierbas aromáticas como cebollin (ciboulette), ajo chino, orégano y albahaca sembrado en el patio trasero, pero en materos, así tratamos de cubrir nuestras 'necesidades culinarias'.

We alternate what we sow in each cycle because our garden is small. Right now we are preparing for the new seedlings.
We also have aromatic herbs such as chives, Chinese garlic, oregano and basil planted in the backyard, but in pots, so we try to cover our 'culinary needs'
