On Wednesday Rafael approached us to let us know that on Thursday we would be leaving to visit Cerro Oso, one of the most important places for them, for the Wottuja culture. To get to Cerro Oso the journey is divided into two parts, first we walk to the base of the hill "Uruguayo" and the next day very early in the morning we start the ascent of the hill.

The departure was on Thursday, we got ready for a two day trip that started at 3:30PM, a little late for us.

The Piaroas are people who walk these jungles every day, despite being small in stature, they are very strong and fast. To get to Uruguayo from the community they walk about 2 hours, in the case of us sabararies (Creoles), it usually takes twice as long. For this reason, we had to walk faster so that it would not get dark.

Josue accompanied us all the way. We always have children taking care of us but this time of the little ones only he accompanied us, I guess maybe because the hike is strong or maybe just because they did not want, we will not know.🤷‍♀.

We are in the middle of winter on this side of the tropics which means that the rains are constant, we found everything flooded, the rivers swollen so that sometimes we had to take off our shoes to cross certain parts of the road.

Normally these roads are traversed using Cross or waterproof rubber boots so you don't have to take off your shoes all the time.

image.png

The road to Uruguayo was opened very recently, it is a project that the family has been carrying out since the beginning of the year, many of the conucos of the community are located in this area. Because the Creoles continue to come closer, the grandfather wants to get away from the noise of the city and this has been achieved little by little.

We arrived at Uruguayo at around 6:30, it wasn't long before the sun started to set so we set up the hammocks, took a quick swim in the river, got ready to wait for dinner and chat for a while. Once we had dinner I don't think anyone had any energy, we all went to the hammocks at once. This was by far one of the coldest nights I have spent in Amazonas.

The next morning, already well rested, we were getting ready to climb the mountain, at the camp we would leave some things to go lighter. We had a hot oatmeal for breakfast, shared a couple of cookies and began to climb without hesitation because the road ahead was long and demanding.

image.png

The boots I wore to climb were borrowed and were a size bigger than my foot so the climb after the first 2 hours was somewhat painful, the view was wonderful that if. As we go up you can see the immensity of the jungle around us, the feeling is indescribable, we are an ant in this picture.

image.png

image.png

I had never done this tour before, Rafael commented that I was the first woman that they took there and the truth is that I felt very honored by this fact, grateful to the universe that has given me this beautiful opportunity to know my country and the Amazon that represents us so much.

image.png

Once at the top when we thought we were arriving, we began to see how the river ran down the mountain, wells of different sizes were being created, waterfalls everywhere, springs of water gushing as if by magic.

image.png

image.png

image.png

And when we arrived... The most beautiful thing my eyes have ever seen, a set of deep wells at the top of the mountain, beautiful colors and the sky that hours before looked cloudy, just cleared so we could enjoy this wonder.

I remember that all the way I thought about not getting wet because I was only wearing the clothes I had on and it was quite cold, but when I saw this paradise I couldn't help but run into the water.

Once we had cooled down a bit and the temperature was already pleasant, we sat down to receive the gift of nature, we shared mañoco, wild fruit collected by the young piaroas who had come up with us. Amazonian fruit is quite strong, almost everything has very exotic flavors and most of them are superfoods that generate an extreme sense of well being.

"Chucuama suadía chamisuqui asegua"

"Full belly, happy heart"

There is no being under this earth that is not happy after this, for me it was very important to achieve this ascent, up there I could connect with the energy of creation, I could feel God close, I could hear how Chejerü spoke to me closely, he spoke to me in his language through his children, my brothers, he spoke to me under the essence of the whole. The fullness was felt, a little bit of life for a change.

And just as we arrived we had to leave and this trip back to camp promised to be much longer. After the clothes had dried a bit in the sun, we all gathered our gear and began our descent.

Here I speak of one of the most sacred places for the culture, the grandfather mentions his name a lot during the singing ceremonies, he is transported in dreams by all these hills and tepues, his work is not only for his people, his singing is for humanity, he is a protector of the earth and this is one of the hills to which he goes for help in those nights of connection with creation.

That's all for today, I hope you were able to travel for a while with me, I wish you a week full of nice vibes, see you soon. Adiwa!

Adiwa!
