Portuguese landscape: The Wolf's Leap

In the heart of a region known as Baixo Alentejo (southern Portugal), runs the Guadiana - the great river of southern Iberian Peninsula.

At a certain point (near the village of Mértola), the river sees its flow narrowing due to the constraints imposed by the geomorphology of the territory.

It's at this same point that rapids are formed and take us to fast and furious waters, which culminate in powerful cascades.

That point is known as "Pulo do Lobo", what in english means "Wolf's Leap" (don't ask me why...).

The photo below was taken at that spot, right at the point where the calm waters give rise to the rapids... Just before the deep and narrow gorges!
