Hive Guide - Don't let failure make you stop!

Hello there! Zak here from Cape Town, South Africa and today I would like to write another little Hive Guide regarding the subject of Consistency and Posting on Hive.

In this case, the nuance is this concept of consistency has more than one layer. You see, people give up for different reasons and one of the reasons that people give up on their posting AND consistency is when they skip a beat. When they are unable to post ar post 3 times a week, or once a day, etc and they get frustrated with their inability to post or perhaps the fact that they are now BEHIND their schedule.

But nobody is your boss on Hive, you are working for yourself and as long as you do not post in a way that is abusive, you should be able to post and catch up with your own schedule instead of posting less and less and then eventually, nothing.

Just post anyway! Instead of giving up, just post. If you were meant to release two posts a day over 7 days and you release 1 post on one day then post three posts tomorrow!

I would not usually advise anyone to do this, it is FAR better to post regularly and evenly, and yet I know certain Hivers that say nothing in 7-10 days and then drop 3 posts in one afternoon in different communities of course, and each post doing great!

So there are some ground rules to catching up:

  • Do not post two posts within 24 hours that has too much of similar content. There are exceptions to this rule, use your brain on this one. Eg. If I post a Philosophical post about meditation and another philosophical post about yoga and meditation then they might be too similar. But if I posted a Food post about baking a cake and another food post about potato bakes then it would be alright! Its different!
  • Try posting in different communities!
  • Still make sure to use all 10 tags, here you may overlap a little between posts.
  • Know your limits! Try not to be too overzealous with the way you catch up. If your target was one short, this is easy. If you were five short, catch up over time.

The final bit of advice regarding running late and stopping posting because you missed your own deadlines is that when you have time, do the opposite! Pre-write one or two articles that have ever-green content and keep it in Drafts or saved in a Word file on your PC. Just keep it there for in case of emergency - break glass!

Again, you will need to plan this content as somewhat ever-green and thus keep in mind that after a certain time, you will need to write a different backup post and post the backup post you wrote before.

With that said, I am catching up right now! Hahahaha! I hope this motivates SOMEONE to just DO IT and make their blogging dreams come true!

I will leave you with one of my Hive mantras: You post might not make a fortune. There is no guarantee how much a post can make. But your post will never do NOTHING!

Your post will make SOMETHING! So instead of stopping, you inch forward instead. Someone who constantly inches forward eventually leaves the person who stopped dead far behind them.

Thank you for reading!

Cheers!
