What will happen when chaos legion comes out?

During the last weeks, we have seen a tremendous growth of Splinterlands. It seems it was directly linked to SPS and came at a time when there were no packs to be bought from the website. Untamed packs are selling for close to 30$ per pack on secondary markets. Dice packs have sold out in record time and are selling for 25$ on these markets. DEC prices went through the roof. You need to pay around 7$ for 1000 DEC at the moment. Keeping in mind that it is supposed to be pegged 1000 DEC = 1$.

Because of SPS and the exponential growth of players, all the assets developed extremely well during the last weeks. The question is, how will the release of chaos legions affect this?

There will be a presale that will probably be linked to the SPS stake that players have. Probably the stake of SPS will define how many packs you can buy in the presale.

Why Splinterlands is not interested in bringing Chaos Legion out ASAP

In my opinion, Splinterlands won't bring the cards into the game as fast as possible because it will alter the economy. At the moment new players can only get into the game by either renting cards from other players or buying them on the market. Both makes the value of cards go up simply because the demand is high and the offer is decreasing. Each time a card is upgraded, the merged cards are burnt and the whole supply is decreasing. Keeping in mind that Splinterlands earns 5% on all the transactions that take place on the platform, they don't need to sell more cards. The more prices go up, the more players are in the game, the more these 5% will represent.

The challenge is to keep the economy running and introduce the new packs

My guess is therefore that the team will try to postpone the release of the chaos legion as long as possible. Because once these packs are for sale for 2$ per pack, it will make the value of DEC come down since it will be probably possible to buy 1 pack for 2000 DEC. This means that quite quickly people will sell DEC to buy other tokens in order to buy credits to buy packs. Soon we will have the peg more or less in place again. With lower DEC prices, the game becomes less rewarding to play, people will spend less for rentals or to buy cards.

Keeping this in mind, I think that the amount of packs that can be bought will be limited in the beginning. Anyways, it will be a very delicate path for Splinterlands to follow to bring these chaos legions into the game without disrupting the whole economy...
