Greetings MED-Hive community!
HAPPY NEW MONTH TO EVERYONE!
Hello everyone! We welcome you once again, to the Med-hive community Monthly Theme Reveal Post for Health Promotion, Awareness and Discussions. As this community's main objective, members have the opportunity to join and share knowledge, and practical tips and answer questions about the theme of the month.
We all want to learn and grow with this community this month, as we write about a chosen area of focus. Please, feel free to do as many posts as you want about the topic throughout the month even outside the weekly prompts. We aim to open health discussions regarding our topic and the more the merrier!
Medicine has myriads of things to write about, considering the different points of view from the various health professionals or even non-professionals, everyone has a health experience. Thus, you have the opportunity to glean from them and expand your horizons about our topic for the month, here on the wonderful Hive Blockchain.
Let's get the knowledge flowing, shall we?
The theme of this month is - DIABETES AWARENESS
A HEAVY BURDEN
Diabetes Mellitus (aka DM) is a chronic condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Its complications can cause significant burdens on individuals, families, healthcare systems and society as a whole. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2021, an estimated 422 million adults were living with diabetes.
Now - that's a lot of people! Sadly, this number is expected to increase to 578 million by 2030.
The complications of diabetes can affect many organs and systems in the body, including the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and cardiovascular system. These complications can lead to blindness, kidney failure, neuropathy and an increased risk of heart disease and stroke. They also contribute to reduced quality of life, decreased productivity and increase in healthcare costs.
The burden of diabetes and its complications is significant, both in terms of human suffering and economic impact as well. According to the International Diabetes Federation, in 2019, the global healthcare expenditure on diabetes was estimated to be 760 billion USD$ and this figure is projected to increase to 825 billion USD$ by 2030.
Prevention and management of diabetes and its complications require a comprehensive and integrated approach that involves individuals, healthcare providers and policymakers. It includes measures such as promoting healthy lifestyles, early detection and diagnosis, effective treatment and access to affordable and quality care.
With this being said, the MED-HIVE community thought it is an important subject to discuss and more importantly, a topic to raise awareness about.
Therefore, it's now officially the beginning of the month theme!
In the following days and weeks, we will launch weekly challenges with prizes to be won, so make sure to pay attention to the @med-hive account! Just to give you all a sneak peek of what might happen this month here's a summary:
