what is eczema

Eczema falls into the family of dermatitis and is also known as Atopic dermatitis, it dries of the skin and makes the area affected bumpy and itchy. Immediately this disease affects the skin the site will look irritating and dull.

Eczema affects people in different parts of the world but on beautiful thing is that it can be treated and it's not contagious, tho in Nigeria we have the feeling and fear that eczema can be contagious but scientist has proven to it that eczema is not contagious.

Different types of eczema or dermatitis

There are so many types of dermatitis not just atopic dermatitis, there is Neurodermatitis, Seborrheic dermatitis, Contact dermatitis and many more but am focusing on atopic dermatitis today.
But all this types of dermatitis are very delegate skin disease that should be given attention as soon as noticed.

Causes of atopic dermatitis

Here in Africa it is believed that only non hygiene people develop eczema because of living in a dirty environment.
But that's not just the only cause of eczema there is more to that.

  • Some products are not good for some skin color and they can cause eczema as result.
  • Sensitive skins might react to some bathing water, bleach, detergent and this might cause eczema.
  • Some types of dermatitis can be caused by hormone changes that is why here in Africa we often see pregnant mothers full of eczema.
  • Some hormonal drugs can also cause eczema, I am an example of this when I was talking a particular hormonal drug I started having eczema all over my back, immediately I stopped the treatment my skin went back to normal.
There are many other medical and scientific factors that can cause eczema.
Development of eczema

It starts by drying up the site, then it fits a little bit inflamed and it start itching and spreads round the body.
As we can see from the above picture gradually the site will get darker than the body, and the area will look thicker too.

Should I see a doctor

Yes see a doctor immediately you notice that this skin disease is now affecting your sleep and secondly if the person starts to run temperature please see a doctor immediately.

OR

You might have been on self treatment but no improvement please see a doctor because it can get complicated.

My little tip of advice
  • Do not use a product just because you think it will be good for.
  • Please visit the doctor to know the cause of whatever health problem you have.
  • Personal hygiene is very important because it will help you trace out the cause of the health issues.

Have you experienced any skin issues, please can I know in the comment section.
