Luca review - an animated movie on DisneyPlus

A few days ago, I had the chance to stream the movie Luca on DisneyPlus. This is a high-quality animated movie, one that we would have had to visit the cinema to see a few years ago. But, the world has changed, and streaming services are taking over more and more. As a result, they are giving access to lots of material on their services at the same time as the movie is shown on cinemas worldwide.

Of course, I do live in a country without DisneyPlus, meaning that I should have visited a cinema to watch it, but since I know how to get a DisneyPlus subscription and to watch DisneyPlus in countries without actual access, I took advantage of that to stream Luca on the streaming service.

But, enough about how and where to watch Luca. Let me rather write about the most important - is Luca worth watching?

What is Luca all about?

Luca is the name of a fish, but whenever he leaves the water, he turns into a normal human being. But, if he touches water, he will suddenly look like a fish again.

Luca is kind of fed up with life in the water and with his parents and all the rules. He dreams of owning a Vespa, which will make him able to travel around the world and to enjoy the ultimate feeling of freedom. In the process, he meets a nice girl, and a bad guy... and they are competing against one another in a competition that has a nice reward which will make it easier to get their hands on a Vespa.

The story is quite predictable, and any adult watching it will easily be able to predict the entire storyline... but that is okay!

I watched it with quite a lot of kids and adults, and I do know that the adults laughed regularly, and the kids also seemed to like it. Luca is harmless, easy to digest, easy to understand, and it covers popular topics such as friendship, morale, cheating, parenting, being a child, and so much more!

Is Luca worth watching?

I would easily say yes to that question. It might not be the best animated movie ever, but if you just want something to watch with your kids, this is way better than most other content you will find in cinemas or elsewhere online.

My Luca score: 7/10

Have you seen Luca? How did you like the movie?
