Aleko Konstantinov ist ein bulgarischer Schriftsteller aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, der in Svishtov an der Donau gelebt hat, aber damals auch viel gereist ist.
Bekannt sind vor allem seine Kurzgeschichten über "Bay Banyo", einem Händler der Rosenöl und Teppiche in Westeuropa verkauft hat. Eine Romanfigur, mit denen sich sicherlich viele aufstrebende Bulgaren identifizieren konnten.
Mit 34 Jahren wurde Aleko auf einer Reise mysteriös ermordet. Vermutet wird, dass es ein Fehler war und er mit seinem Freund, einem lokalen Politiker, verwechselt wurde.
Heute ist sein Haus in Svishtov ein nationales Museum, in dem es auch das ein oder andere Möbelstück aus Wien geben soll.

Aleko Konstantinov is a Bulgarian writer from the 19th century, who lived in Svishtov at the Danube, but also traveled a lot at that time.
He is best known for his short stories about "Bay Banyo", a merchant who sold rose oil and carpets in Western Europe. A novel character with whom many aspiring Bulgarians could certainly identify.
At the age of 34, Aleko was mysteriously murdered while traveling. It is suspected that it was a mistake and he was mistaken for his friend, a local politician.
Today, his house in Svishtov is a national museum, which is said to have a piece or two of furniture from Vienna.
