Historische Altstadt Idstein und der Wohnmobilhafen / Historic Old Town Idstein and the RV Port #28

Unsere Tour in Mittelhessen führte uns auf dem Rückweg durch den Taunus in die Stadt Idstein, die nördlich der Landeshauptstadt Wiesbaden liegt.

Our tour in Central Hesse took us on the way back through the Taunus Mountains to the town of Idstein, which lies north of the state capital Wiesbaden.

Idstein ist eine Hochschulstadt und trägt den Ehrentitel "Reformationsstadt Europas". Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung geht auf das Jahr 1102 zurück.

Idstein is a College town and bears the honorary title "Reformation Town of Europe". The first documentary mention dates back to the year 1102.

Burganlage, Hexenturm und Schlossanlage
Castle complex, witch tower and palace complex

Der Hexenturm ist das Wahrzeichen der Stadt. Eine Gedenktafel an einer Felswand unterhalb des Wehrturms erinnert an die Opfer der Hexenprozesse. Unter Graf Johannes von Nassau und Idstein (1603-1677) wurden 1676 in Hexenprozessen 39 Menschen hingerichtet, die erst 2014 moralisch und sozialethisch rehabilitiert wurden. Im Hexenturm selbst wurden keine Menschen inhaftiert, sondern in einem kleineren Turm, der heute nicht mehr existiert.

The witch tower is the landmark of the town. A memorial plaque on a rock wall below the fortified tower commemorates the victims of the witch trials. Under Count Johannes von Nassau und Idstein (1603-1677), 39 people were executed in witch trials in 1676, and they were only morally and socio-ethically rehabilitated in 2014. No people were imprisoned in the witch tower itself, but in a smaller tower that no longer exists today.

Sowohl die Burganlage als auch der Schlosskomplex sind auf Felsen gebaut. Eine Brücke führt vom Burgbereich zum Schloss, das heute als Schulgebäude dient.

Historische Altstadt
Historical old town

Repräsentative Fachwerkhäuser schmücken die denkmalgeschützte Altstadt. Eines der historisch bedeutendsten Fachwerkhäuser ist das reich verzierte Killingerhaus am König-Adolf-Platz, direkt unterhalb der Burganlage (linkes Bild, Mitte). Es beherbergt heute ein Museum und ein Fremdenverkehrsbüro.

Representative half-timbered houses adorn the old town, which is protected as a historic monument. One of the most historically significant half-timbered houses is the richly decorated Killingerhaus on King Adolf Place, directly below the castle complex (left picture, center). Today it houses a museum and tourist office.

Der Wohnmobilhafen ...
The RV port ...

... ist ein gebührenpflichtiger Stellplatz für 12 Wohnmobile am Stadtrand von Idstein. Der Platz befindet sich an einer Sportanlage auf einem für Wohnmobile ausgewiesenen Parkplatz, ist geschottert und weitgehend eben. Es besteht die Möglichkeit, Frischwasser 1 Euro/80 Liter und Strom 1 Euro/8 Stunden zu beziehen. Die Entsorgung von Grauwasser und die chemische Toilette sind in der Stellplatzgebühr von 10 Euro enthalten. Die Bezahlung der Stellplatzgebühr erfolgt bei der Ankunft im Tourismusbüro oder über eine Parkplatz-App. Das Zentrum, die Altstadt, die Burg und das Schloss sind in ca. 10 Minuten zu Fuß zu erreichen. Es gibt ausgewiesene Rad- und Wanderwege.

... is a paid parking lot for 12 motorhomes on the outskirts of Idstein. The site is located at a sports facility in a parking area designated for motorhomes, is graveled and largely flat. There is the possibility to supply fresh water 1 Euro/80 liters and electricity 1 Euro/8 hours. The disposal of gray water and chemical toilet are included in the pitch fee of 10 euros. Payment of the pitch fee is made on arrival at the tourist office or via a parking app. The center, the old town, the castle and the palace can be reached on foot in about 10 minutes. There are designated cycling and hiking trails.
