A throwback visit to the Queen of the Hills, Shimla - CCH Photography Contest 8 Theme Old Travel Experience

Hi everyone
My greetings to you all
Hope you are doing well

Today I am going to take you for a visit to a beautiful hill station. I visited this place with my hubby in November 2017 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Shimla also known as the Queen of the hills, have been the Summer capital of India during Britisher's reign in India, as temperature in this area stays lower even during the summers as comparison to the other parts of India.

Shimla is full of tourist attractions, we stayed there for five days and visited all the wonderful places located nearby. Today I am going to share one of those beautiful places.

Sri Hanuman Jaakhu temple

One of the most beautiful place in Shimla is Shri Hanuman Jakhu temple. This is an ancient temple dedicated to Hindu deity Monkey God Shri Hanuman. It is situated on Jakhu hill, which is Shimla's highest peak., with a height of 2455m above main sea level.

Story behind the temple

It is said that Sri Hanuman who is the ardent devotee of Shri Rama, stopped on this Hill for a while during his search for Sanjeevani Booti(A life saving medicine) to revive Sri Laxmana (younger brother of Sri Rama) who was wounded to death in the war with Ravana (King of Lanka). To save him, Sri Hanuman came here to search for that miraculous medicine.

Here are a few pictures of the temple😊

A very big statute of Lord Hanuman inside temple premises, it is one of the tallest statues in the world with a height of 108ft. This statue was so big that we could see it even from our hotel. Which was located at a great distance from the temple.

The temple is accessible by foot, horse, taxi or ropeway. In this picture you may see the stairs have been built to reach to the temple. So we went by foot. There were no crowd on this way as most of the visitors were going by taxi, ropeway or horses that were available from the other side of the hill. We walked slowly, kept talking to each other, enjoying the natural beauty all around and covered all the distance swiftly. There was a lot of monkeys too in the way. There were warnings written on boards at places to keep distance from monkeys and not to chase them or they will bite you😄) we were saved with the grace of God.
