Self-care or Selfish?

Hello everyone, we are here again with the latest weekly contest by @queercoin with the prompt:

This week's topic:
Selfishness - What is the difference between taking care of yourself and being selfish? How can you know that you are being selfish? How do you think you can take care of your own interest without falling into selfishness?

Source

Selfishness connotes lack of consideration for other people; without having any regard for others. Thus, one often hear people say that a person is selfish and all that. But a marked difference exist between taking care of yourself or oneself a s being selfish.

I have tried above to show what "selfish" entails. For purposes of clarity, being selfish means wanting to take from others and not give back, whereas self-care is about replenishing your own resources without draining someone else's. There lies the big difference between the two.

Thus said, when one avoids pleasing people at the expense of your inner joy and peace, that is self care. Unlike selfishness which involves lack of consideration for the welfare of others. When one exhibits either of the above traits people can say that either the person is taking care of himself or herself or that the person is selfish.
