Romanos 8:14-17
14 Porque todos los que son guiados por el Espíritu de Dios, éstos son hijos de Dios.
15 Pues no habéis recibido el espíritu de esclavitud para estar otra vez en temor, sino que habéis recibido el espíritu de adopción, por el cual clamamos: ¡Abba, Padre!
16 El Espíritu mismo da testimonio a nuestro espíritu, de que somos hijos de Dios.
17 Y si hijos, también herederos; herederos de Dios y coherederos con Cristo, si es que padecemos juntamente con él, para que juntamente con él seamos glorificados.

Una vez presencie un suceso que me pareció muy cruel, un grupo de muchachos que se estaban burlando de otro muchacho de la escuela que era hijo adoptivo. Le dijeron a él, "Tu no eres el verdadero hijo de tu papá". Él se aguantó lo mas que pudo peo al final les contestó, "Lo único que les puedo decir es que mi padre me escogió a mi,pero sus padres no pudieron hacer otra cosa que aceptarlos a ustedes".
Como cristianos nos ha pasado algo similar, nuestro padre celestial también nos escogió a nosotros. ¡Que privilegio! hemos sido adoptados por Dios. Mediante el Espíritu Santo, Dios nos hace hijos suyos. Debido a que somos hijos de Dios, disfrutamos de grandes riquezas como coherederos. Dios ya nos ha dado sus mejores regalos;su hijo, el perdón, la vida eterna;y nos anima a pedirle todo lo que necesitamos.
Quizás no sintamos siempre que pertenecemos a Dios, pero el Espíritu Santo es nuestro testigo. El testimonio del Espíritu Santo es una afirmación interior por parte del Espíritu Santo de Dios a nuestro espíritu.
Su presencia en nosotros nos recuerda quienes somos, Pablo segura a los cristianos romanos, en una carta magnifica, para animarles que: "El espíritu mismo da testimonio a nuestro espíritu, de que somos hijos de Dios".
El tener la seguridad de que somos hijos e hijas de Dios cambia nuestra actitud hacia todas las circunstancias de la vida. Empezamos a verlo todo desde la perspectiva de la eternidad.
Romans 8: 14-17
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God.
15 For you have not received the spirit of slavery to be in fear again, but you have received the spirit of adoption, by which we cry out: Abba, Father!
16 The Spirit himself testifies to our spirit that we are children of God.
17 And if children, also heirs; heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if we suffer together with him, so that together with him we may be glorified.

Once I witnessed an event that seemed very cruel to me, a group of boys who were making fun of another boy at school who was an adoptive son. They said to him, "You are not your father's true son." He held on as long as he could but in the end he answered them, "The only thing I can tell you is that my father chose me, but his parents could not do anything but accept you."
As Christians, something similar has happened to us, our heavenly father also chose us. What a privilege! we have been adopted by God. Through the Holy Spirit, God makes us his children. Because we are children of God, we enjoy great riches as joint heirs. God has already given us his best gifts; his son, forgiveness, eternal life; and he encourages us to ask him for everything we need.
We may not always feel that we belong to God, but the Holy Spirit is our witness. The witness of the Holy Spirit is an internal affirmation by the Holy Spirit of God to our spirit.
His presence in us reminds us of who we are, Paul assures the Roman Christians, in a magnificent letter, to encourage them that: "The spirit itself bears witness to our spirit, that we are children of God."
Having the assurance that we are sons and daughters of God changes our attitude towards all circumstances of life. We begin to see everything from the perspective of eternity.
