While there are problems of what to plant, how and where to plant interms of getting an adequate space of land, Mixed gardening or companion planting is an essential gardening practices, planting varieties of veggies together is actually a good one, apart from utilizing the space, its also very beneficial to the plants which can help them thrive under different weather conditions and the plants can help each other grow.

In this garden, i have three different varieties of vegetables planted, The lagos & african spinach and also fluted pumpkins.
I decided to add pumpkins leaf because its way stronger than spinach, its stem is a bit robust and can grow few inches than the other, which it can provide shade to the other. The spinach on the other hand, is also an annual crop with a minimal maintenance, which has a broad leaf.

  • One thing i noticed is that the spinach which can grow so high with flowers has been attracting favorable insects which are pollinator and has been helpful for pest controls.

The fluted pumpkins which has a better stem and root helps prevent erosion, while veggies like spinach requires a little water, pumpkins needs more water for its growth, thereby there is a balance as it helps keep the soil moist at all time.

Basically, having different veggies in the garden helps beautifies the garden and a beautiful one to behold.

There is no doubt mixed gardening is one i love, with the way i was able to utilize the limited space i have and I'm able to get the best of the veggies planted, barely 6 weeks after planting.
