The passion succumbed | Part I

Adelaide was one of the most beautiful and despicable creatures to ever set foot on the blessed soil of our world. That abstract being, combined with purity and evil, was the reason for my prevailing dichotomy, causing me to rebel against my faith. That exquisite entity that lives only to suck the human life, pointed out by the saints who despise the tiny creatures of the underworld.

I knew her in my days of recent widowhood, remembering the agonizing events when my wife, the unfortunate one, was the victim of the most terrible fatality that possessed her body and expelled her last breath from it, and perhaps death is solidary? I do not detest her as I should have for having separated myself from my beloved, but I thank her for having taken away her pain.

There, in those murky days, when I arranged the clothes of my deceased spouse, remembering with each fabric a beautiful event that we shared; it was on that day so gray and so unusual that I met Adelaide. It seemed as if she had come from the farthest place, since she was carrying in the back of her car some enormous luggage where any object of extremity could fit. I was distracted by puerile details about her car and her clothes and it was there, there! That's when I spotted the trap of her beauty and fell into it.

The first impact I received was from her eyes, how cruel they were! They were green, bright as two emerald gems. Unsurpassed and chimerical, in fact, I never thought there was a person on earth who carried such eyes. Then I saw his face, his cheeks, precious and shining like two white stones. His eyebrows, his eyelashes, that delicate chin, I even imagined touching him in the most subtle way!

His hair, straight and red, like fire, like the upward ardor that arose in me that day, like the same passion. His arms, his shoulders, raised, defined and prominent. Her frame was thin and her waist: God, but how ungodly cruelty! It was like a sculpture designed only to be admired. I did not speak of her lips from the beginning because it was the first thing I avoided remembering, but at this point, it does not hurt me so much to be able to comment on it.

What I miss most about her mouth was her smile, it was like a hook with bait that catches the most indocile men, and when they avoid succumbing to the jaws of her smile, she only has to show her angelic presence to dissipate with power all resistance. I felt as if I were in an area of pure light trying to avoid her at all costs with my hands, I attributed my firmness out of respect for my deceased wife, but there was another adversary that distracted my common sense: curiosity.

ESPAÑOL

La pasión sucumbida | Parte I

I looked away for a moment as I did not want to disturb her, but as I looked again, I noticed that she was watching me, showing off her beautiful smile, celestial magnificence! She approached me later, walking with a trepidation similar to that of the nymphs that walk gracefully through the woods. She stopped in front of my doorway and I received her looking at her in awe. She introduced herself with her very friendly and polite name, to which I responded in the same way.

I shuddered to have her in my presence, as if one of Michelangelo's angels had escaped from one of his paintings to give me his heavenly caresses and to frolic in a valley of pleasure. But I did not allow my passions to bend me, so I continued the conversation.

—It is beautiful your house good man. —She said, "Apparently we are neighbors now, since I have moved to the house at the end of this street.

—I beg your pardon? —I said, "What a nice surprise! —After analyzing my own reaction, I was very embarrassed to have acted this way. After analyzing my own reaction, I felt very embarrassed about acting this way.

—His wife must be a great decorator, the facade of your home is splendid. —Said Adelaide, looking at my house.

—If she was, she passed away two days ago. —I replied crestfallen.

—Oh, how I regret..." she said sorrowfully.

—Don't worry," I said in a subtle tone. "She was in serious health, I don't want to talk about it.

—Don't worry, I shouldn't have been reckless. My condolences. Well, thank you very much for your attention, I don't know anybody in this neighborhood and you seem very kind, I'm sorry if I bother you but I would like to get your friendship, if you like.

—Of course! —Again I answered euphorically.

—Perfect then, you know where I live, we are not far away and you can visit me whenever you want.

—And you can visit me. —This time I said it in a calm voice.

—Y usted a mí. —Esta vez lo dije con voz serena.

As he left, his beautiful red hair waved like waves of living flames. It was so wonderful to see and so mesmerizing, that I completely forgot the fear of loneliness that overwhelmed me after I became a widower. I didn't stop seeing her until she got into her car and before she started, she again waved goodbye gracefully. I was flattered and dared to respond in the same way, but at that moment I felt paralyzed.

The rest of the day went by normally, I was lying on my bed on my back, with my hands on the back of my head facing the ceiling. I thought about how happy I was that afternoon during my unexpected encounter with Adelaide. I thought so much about her image that I hesitated to say my prayers before going to sleep: "What kind of spell has Adelaide left me?" I thought at that moment, there was nothing else that would dominate my mind. Suddenly, I heard a noise that broke the window of my room, I realized that someone wanted to open it, which gave me a terrible fright. When I looked closely, I saw a pale, delicate, radiant hand appearing as if made of pieces of the moon. To my pleasant surprise, it was Adelaide who came to visit me that night.

To be continued...
