Aunque no fue el primero, este fue muy importante para mí. Íbamos a todos lados juntos; cumpleaños, fiestas, conciertos, rumbas, playas, y pare de contar. Él era muy conocido (y si alguien que me conozca de esa época por aquí dice su nombre lo silencio de por vida 😂). El hecho es que fue muy relevante en mi vida, nos conocimos en el orfeón, que era mi vida, pero fuera del coro casi no conocía gente y empecé a conocer personas de su entorno y algunos de ellos se fueron haciendo mis amigos también. Esta fue mi pareja más loca, éramos cómplices en todo. Recuerdo que mi despecho duró mucho, mucho tiempo, no superaba al tipo. Salí con varias personas, pero siempre que salía a tomar con mis amigas y me emborrachaba, solo podía recordarlo a él. Cómo buena exnovia, me alejé de su entorno; no volví a contactar a sus amigos porque es un espacio que hay que respetar. Aún lo seguía viendo en el orfeón porque no me quedaba más remedio. Como un año después de haber terminado, una de sus amigas me contactó: ¡VAMOS A CELEBRAR JUNTAS NUESTRO CUMPLEAÑOS! Sí, cumplimos años el mismo día y siempre lo celebramos juntas, ese año no fue la excepción. Me reencontré con todo ese grupo que era muy divertido y me caía muy bien y me contaron que después que él y yo terminamos él no volvió a salir más nunca con ellos. Después de ese día ellos se hicieron parte de mi vida y fueron mis amigos. Karen y yo seguimos celebrando juntas hasta que la vida y unos cuantos países de por medio nos llevaron a alejarnos. Pero sigue siendo la primera persona a la que felicito el día de nuestro cumpleaños. Los años fueron pasando y él seguía siendo el único ex al que no le hablaba, pero principalmente porque no me hablaba. Una vez, como un año luego de haber terminado, intenté escribirle y me respondió muy mal, me trató terrible y más nunca lo volví a intentar. Amigas del coro me decían que su sueño era volvernos a ver juntos y no sé por qué esos pequeños mensajes me daban esperanzas. Cómo les dije al principio, esto ocurrió hace muchos años, 15 años aproximadamente. Y no es que no lo hubiera superado, pero era una de esas cosas que te quemaban el cerebro porque siempre te preguntabas “que habría pasado sí” y la duda se mantuvo constante. ¿Y a qué viene todo esto? Aquí viene el contenido que estaban esperando. Hace unos meses mi ex me siguió en Instagram, yo también empecé a seguirlo para ver si eso daba pie a iniciar una conversación y sanar algunas cosas. Me enteré de que se mudó de país y que le va excelente, también supe que a veces se reúne con algunos amigos en común. Siempre veía sus historias en el trabajo y otros vídeos que eran unas banderas rojas 🚩 sonantes. De igual manera no me importaba mucho eso porque no tenía ninguna intención romántica, solo veía las posibilidades. Pues el día después de mi cumpleaños estuvimos hablando y ella me comentó que no pudo celebrar el día de su cumpleaños porque estaba trabajando, pero que ese día iba a salir con unas amigas de trabajo y al día siguiente con otras amigas que tenemos en común de Cumaná. Ellas están en el mismo país y me pareció fabuloso que pudiera estar con gente querida y cercana para su cumpleaños. Pasaron estos dos días y el domingo, casi a las dos de la mañana, estaba aún despierta y a esa hora me entró una videollamada de mi amiga, le contesté enseguida porque esperaba que fueran las chicas llamando para hablar tonterías… La sorpresa fue que cuando sale la imagen veo a mi amiga Karen, con mi ex y otro amigo mutuo dedicándome una canción. Yo no sabía dónde meter la cara, ellos estaban inspirados cantando una canción de Ricky Martín y ni amiga me decía: “¡aún le dueles!”. Terminó la canción y me dijo: “chao, ya terminé contigo” y él cortó la llamada. Obviamente, estaban todos borrachos y en un momento lo que hice fue reírme y se me ocurrió que era la oportunidad perfecta para decirles que me encantaba verlos a todos juntos y que los quería mucho. Lo que vino luego fue el recuerdo de por qué habíamos terminado. “Chao, bastarda” fue uno de los mensajes de un vídeo que me mandaron luego. Y algún montón de cosas que se suponía que eran “graciosas”. Me vinieron los recuerdo de él hablando mal de mis amigos y también de comentarios homofóbicos y misóginos, de expresarse mal de todo el mundo. Pero lo peor era que yo ya no me sentía apreciada por él al final, no era feliz, no había nada que me mantuviera feliz a su lado y por eso decidí que era hora de terminar. En nuestra época de novios era una persona despreciable, nunca tenía nada bueno que decir de nadie y ese día de esa llamada recordé todo eso. Había pasado muchos años de mi vida arrepintiéndome por haber terminado lo que consideraba “la relación más bonita en la que había estado” cuando en realidad eso no pasaba. Luego recordé el día que mi mejor amigo me invitó a una cita, en esa cita salió del closet conmigo y me dijo: “nunca te había dicho nada porque estabas con xxx”, le preocupaba mucho lo que habría pensado y hecho mi ex si se llegara a enterar. Así como también recordé el día que golpeó a un compañero del orfeón luego de salir de un concierto solo porque sospechaba que era gay, nunca entendí la razón, solo se fue encima. Ahí ya habíamos terminado y fue cuando mi directora lo expulsó del coro. Es un ser despreciable. Hablé con mis amigas y les dije (porque en algún momento hablamos de si volveríamos con un ex), que no podría volver con él, porque ya habíamos hecho vidas y tomado caminos muy diferentes. A estas alturas, lo que debemos buscar es a personas que nos complementen y que evolucionen, así como evoluciona el mundo, los pensamientos y la sociedad. Al menos desde mi punto de vista es así, y si no comparten mi visión no pueden estar conmigo. Bien me lo dijo mi Prof. Nidia una vez: “la única persona que escogemos en esta vida es a nuestra pareja, y hay que saber qué escoger”. Agradezco mucho esa llamada, y el momento en el que me la hicieron, porque pasó de ser un momento divertido a algo que cambió en mí, porque formaba parte de mí. Se me presentaba hasta en mis sueños, no se apartaba. Pero en ese momento, y más ahora que lo comparto por acá, sé que es un ciclo que cerré, una página que pasé y un capítulo de mi vida que terminó. La reflexión de todo esto es: no somos la misma persona de hace un año, menos de hace 15 años. Si lo sigues siendo, es el momento de leerte y ver en qué podemos cambiar y mejorar, porque el cambio es evolución y la evolución es vivir mejor. Yo me siento agradecida y bendecida por no ser el mismo manojo de nervios e inseguridades que era hace un año, y seguro que en un año seré incluso mejor (eso espero). I don't know if it's the effect of this week of silence and vacations that has made me enter a constant state of introspection and self-evaluation. Although he was not my first, he was very important to me. We would go everywhere together; birthdays, parties, concerts, rumbas, beaches, and stop counting. He was very well known (and if anyone who knows me from that time around here says his name, I will silence him for life 😂). The fact is that he was very relevant in my life, we met in the choir, which was my life, but outside the choir I hardly knew people and I started to meet people around him and some of them were becoming my friends too. This was my craziest couple, we were accomplices in everything. I remember my spite lasted a long, long time, I wasn't over the guy. Furthermore, I dated several people, but whenever I went out drinking with my friends and got drunk, I could only remember him. As a good ex-girlfriend, I stayed away from his environment; I didn't contact his friends again because it's a space to be respected. I still saw him at the choir because I had no choice. About a year after we finished, one of his friends contacted me: WE ARE GOING TO CELEBRATE OUR BIRTHDAY TOGETHER! Yes, we have the same birthday, and we always celebrate it together, and this year was no exception. I was reunited with that whole group that was a lot of fun and I liked him a lot, and they told me that after he and I broke up he never went out with them again. After that day, they became part of my life and my friends. Karen and I continued to celebrate together until life and a few countries in between led us to drift apart. But he is still the first person I congratulate on our birthday. Years went by, and he was still the only ex I didn't talk to, but mostly because he didn't talk to me. Once, about a year after we broke up, I tried to write him, and he responded very badly, treated me terribly, and I never tried again. Friends from the choir told me that their dream was to see us together again, and I don't know why those little messages gave me hope. As I told you at the beginning, this happened many years ago, about 15 years ago. And it's not that I wasn't over it, but it was one of those things that burned your brain because you always wondered "what would have happened if" and the doubt remained constant. So what's this all about? Here comes the content you were waiting for. A few months ago my ex followed me on Instagram, I started following him too to see if that would spark a conversation and heal some things. I found out that he moved countries and is doing great, I also found out that he sometimes hangs out with some mutual friends. I would always see his stories at work and other videos that were some ringing red flags 🚩. Likewise, I didn't care much about that because I didn't have any romantic intentions, I just saw the possibilities. Well, the day after my birthday we were talking, and she told me that she could not celebrate her birthday because she was working, but that she was going out that day with some friends from work and the next day with other friends we have in common from Cumaná. They are in the same country, and I thought it was great that she could be with close and dear people for her birthday. These two days passed and on Sunday, almost at two o'clock in the morning, I was still awake and at that time I received a video call from my friend, I answered immediately because I expected the girls to be calling to talk nonsense… The surprise was that when the image came out I saw my friend Karen, with my ex and another mutual friend dedicating a song to me. I didn't know where to put my face, they were inspired singing a Ricky Martin song and my friend was telling me: “you still hurt him! The song ended, and she said: "bye, I'm done with you” and he cut the call. Obviously, they were all drunk and at one point what I did was laugh, and it occurred to me that it was the perfect opportunity to tell them that I loved seeing them all together and that I loved them very much. What came next was the reminder of why we had broken up. “Bye, you bastard” was one of the messages in a video they sent me afterward. And some bunch of stuff that was supposed to be “funny”. I was reminded of him talking bad about my friends and also of homophobic and misogynistic comments, of bad-mouthing everyone. But the worst thing was that I no longer felt appreciated by him at the end, I was not happy, there was nothing to keep me happy by his side, and so I decided it was time to end it. When we were dating I was a despicable person, I never had anything good to say about anyone and that day of that phone call I remembered all that. I had spent many years of my life regretting ending what I considered “the nicest relationship I had ever been in” when in reality that wasn't happening. Then I remembered the day my best friend asked me out on a date, on that date he came out of the closet with me and said, “I had never said anything to you because you were with xxx”, he was very worried about what my ex would have thought and done if he ever found out. Just as I also remembered the day he hit a fellow member of the choir after leaving a concert just because he suspected I was gay, I never understood the reason, he just went off on me. That's when we were done, and that's when my director expelled him from the choir. At this point, what we should be looking for is people who complement us and who evolve, just as the world, thoughts, and society evolves. At least from my point of view it is so, and if they do not share my vision they cannot be with me. As my Prof. Nidia once told me: “the only person we choose in this life is our partner, and we have to know what to choose”. I am very grateful for that call, and the moment in which it was made to me, because it went from being a funny moment to something that changed in me, because it was part of me. It came to me even in my dreams, it didn't go away. But at that moment, and more so now that I share it here, I know that it is a cycle that I closed, a page that I turned and a chapter of my life that ended. The reflection of all this is: we are not the same person we were a year ago, let alone 15 years ago. If you still are, it's time to read you and see where we can change and improve, because change is evolution and evolution is living better. I feel grateful and blessed that I'm not the same bundle of nerves and insecurities I was a year ago, and I'm sure in a year I'll be even better (I hope so).
