Hail to the Hive!
We have now been aboard our little narrowboat 'Badger for 11 weeks. It's hard to believe really. A lot to learn and adapt to but we have embraced the new lifestyle and are now thinking we really wouldn't want to swap it at all.
I am getting a bit of a thing for bridges as we travel the canal network. They are handy to track your progress on the maps but i just love the array of different characters they have.
I decided to hang out on a grass covered one today and watch the boats pass by. @millycf1976 has beat me up there already.
Am I a troll?
No trolls live under bridges I live on a boat and am just gonna hang out on top of one.
There are a lot of different boaters on the canals. People renting for holidays. People who own their boats and use them for holidays, weekends and whenever they can and people like us who live on them full time.
So many different styles of boat also. Not just the length but also the configuration both outside and in, steering style all sorts of different narrowboats.
I decided to try and video some timelapse of the boats passing through and also take some photos at the same time. Always time for a wave and a brief conversation.
And a bit of fun!
The environment in general is extremely friendly. The boats are slow so nobody is in a hurry. This seems to put everyones minds into another gear which is very refreshing. Everyone seems to have time for a wave, a brief hello or stops on the side of the canal and has a chat.
As I watch the other boats passing under I do think about possible modifications to little badger or dream of when the time comes to upgrade to a bigger boat.
But for today I am just going to soak it all in and enjoy the day and the boats passing by.
It was a good choice to make this leap into this different world to live.
It has its quirks. We have to plan out stops to fill up at waterpoints and empty the garbage and the loo.
Finding grocery shops is also someting you must think about as usually the more beautiful a location then the less amenities it will have in the area.
A small price to pay to be able to change your views every few days and to explore new places.
We simply love it.
11 weeks in and even though we have had lots to overcome with things breaking etc we see it as all part of the adventure.
And when the weather is this good it's simply superb!
So back to little Badger to make some dinner and relax for the evening.
Could be worse I suppose 😉
