Midnight Musings: The Eternal Quest to "Keep Up With it All"

It has been four or five days since I last made a post... which is a really long time, at least for me.

I'm going to give myself at least a partial hall pass because we've had a houseguest for the past five days, but even so.

Now I sit here in the wee hours of the morning contemplating just how thin the fabric that holds together life can sometimes be. Just like so many people's financial lives often hang by a thin thread, sometimes our temporal lives also hang by a very thin string.

A couple of nights ago, we sat outside by our fire pit, talking about "life, and everything in it."

Whereas we had great gratitude for the fact that we had the "luxury" of being able to spend time sitting by a fire talking to a friend... at the same time, we were all highly cognizant of the fact that doing so comes at a "price" for all of us: having to pretty much double our respective work efforts for a couple of weeks, merely to get back to point zero.

As I write those words, the tab open to my gmail account says I have 244 unread messages. Those represent part of the "temporal cost" of taking a couple of days off.

Human DO-ings...

I would submit that a lot of us dream to live lives of contentment as some variation of "Human Beings," and yet we so often end up feeling like "Human DO-ings" instead.

The entire system of human existence seems designed and set up to keep us all eternally mired down in "activity." Idling — even if temporarily — seems to come with a heavy price.

The discussion arose out of the fact that our visiting friend is going to quit his job after he he gets home — because it doesn't afford him a living wage... and the company he is working for keeps cutting back his work hours. And this is someone who lives very modestly.

I get where he's coming from... I reckon I can "catch up" by the end of June if I put extra effort into my eBay stores and work hard at blogging while being prepared to take out my liquid earnings for the rest of month.

I suppose I should be grateful that I even have those options!

Well, time to put these musings to bed... and start afresh tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!

How about YOU? Do you have enough time to get everything done? Does taking a couple of days off set you back a week or more? Do you sometimes feel more like a Human DO-ing than a Human BE-ing?Comments, feedback and other interaction is invited and welcomed! Because — after all — SOCIAL content is about interacting, right?
