You know fall is just around the corner when the asters start blooming. This is one of my favorite landscape plants and it's in its full glory right now. The entire area is aflutter with butterflies and bees.
This is just one very small section of the plant, there were dozens of flying creatures all over it. I love providing them sustenance while they do their part to keep the ecology in balance. Everyone knows that bees are our most important pollinators and that their numbers are dwindling every year.
As pollinators, bees play a part in every aspect of the ecosystem. They support the growth of trees, flowers, and other plants, which serve as food and shelter for creatures large and small. Bees contribute to complex, interconnected ecosystems that allow a diverse number of different species to co-exist.
There is no doubting the importance of bees to our food supply. Without them, our gardens would be bare and our plates empty!
These little guys (only this one wasn't so little, as bees go) are so important to our overall welfare. And what a lesson could be learned from their industry and hard work ethics. Taking those precious moments to enjoy nature and stop and really look at the little parts of the world can be a real balm to the soul. There is so much turmoil, disaster, heartbreak and uncertainty in our world today.
Taking a step back and looking at the world from a different perspective can be another good way to soothe the soul.
This beautiful scene is on the Great River Road, overlooking the Missouri River. The tram brings you from the base of the river up to Aerie Winery at the top. You can enjoy a glass of local wine and absorb the beautiful view in both directions.
