No. –Dijo-, simplemente ocurrió.

Vengo a entregar regalos.

Ger-Man (4).jpg

It was Christmas Eve and I couldn't sleep. I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling fan, trying not to think about the fact that in a few hours I would be traveling back in time.

I know what you're thinking: it's a joke, but it's not.

My parents have always been weird, but this year they have outdone themselves. When they told me about this trip to another world where time flows differently than it does here, my first thought was:

-It can't be!

But then they showed me the portal, and guess what? It exists. I had been told about it, but I refused to believe it.

The portal is basically a gateway between our universe and another in which time passes at a different pace.

Dad indicated that we would travel back to the year of my birth, where I was going to see what Christmas was like back then.

The weather is warm and sunny as I walk through the streets of Caracas, people are smiling and laughing with each other, enjoying the day. Music can be heard in the distance, it sounds like Christmas songs played on an acoustic guitar. There are children running around with new clothes, they are excited about the presents they have received for Christmas and all the candy their parents have prepared for them this year.

As we move through the streets, we see how some people have placed decorations on the outside of their homes; they have hung lights on trees and porches.

Dad told me that we had to leave and we went this time without any control, we didn't know what time it was.

It was a world where Christmas had never existed. The people there still celebrated other holidays, but they had no idea what Christmas was.

I ran into one of my friends who, according to him, had already been to that world, so I asked him what he thought of it.

He told me that he had always wanted to visit this place because it was so different from our world. He told me that he loved seeing how interesting traditions can be when you don't know their origins and meaning. That he loves exploring new worlds and visiting places where he can learn something new about himself or those around him; especially if it is something unexpected or unusual!

So now I think exploring parallel universes is one of the best ways to spend your time. Not only does it allow you to see things differently than you did before, but you have fun doing it!

I wanted to continue talking, but suddenly I found myself alone in a traffic jam and it seemed like Christmas Eve.

For some reason I didn't understand, Dad was no longer with me and I was on my way to my uncle's house for dinner when a vehicle in front of me slammed on its brakes and a chain reaction ensued, causing a massive crash.

I got out of the car and stood dumbfounded as vehicles crashed into each other and people screamed trying to get out of theirs.

When I looked back at my car, I noticed something strange: it had not suffered any damage! It was in perfect condition, with no dents or scratches. As far as I could see, it hadn't even been in an accident.

I approached one of the other drivers and asked him if he had seen what had happened if there had been an explosion or something that had brought everyone to a sudden stop.

No," he said, "it just happened.

After talking to other people who had witnessed the incident, I realized that none of them knew why it had happened either; they just knew that they had stopped suddenly when they shouldn't have. It was as if someone had hit the time pause button for everyone but me.

The portals opened again and I walked through them, I was now in a room with a Christmas tree and presents. The room was warm and cozy, decorated with Christmas lights and ornaments. There were two people looking at me from across the room. One of them was holding a camera.

-Welcome.

The other person, a man in his fifties, told me. He had white hair, and a long beard, and wore a red vest over a blue shirt.

-Did you come to the vacation program?

-Yes," I said. I'm here to deliver gifts.

The man nodded.

-Come in, we are waiting for you.

He pointed toward the couch where he had been sitting, which was next to a fireplace where the fire was dancing merrily.

On the other side of the fireplace was another sofa perpendicular to it, on which three people were seated: two women in their twenties and a boy who looked to be seven or eight years old. All were also wearing festive sweaters: one red, one green, and one blue, with white trim or details around their necks, like snowflakes falling down their shoulders.

After a long, I returned home, and I was relaxing on the couch with my family. When I turned on the TV, I was greeted by a resounding Bing! followed by a flash of light.

Ger-Man (8).jpg

The next thing I knew, I was in a parallel universe, one where Christmas never ended.

The house was decorated from top to bottom with ornaments and lights in every color of the rainbow. There were presents everywhere: under the trees, hanging from the ceiling, and over the fireplace. And the music was playing everywhere; there seemed to be speakers in every room. And everyone was singing.

I looked for my family and found them in front of a giant Christmas tree, eating popcorn, and nougat, and drinking cream punch in glasses that said "Merry Christmas".

They didn't seem surprised at all to see me there; they just smiled and greeted me as if this sort of thing happens all the time.

But then something caught my attention: there was another person who was not part of our family: a girl of about six years old with curly red hair in two ponytails.

And again, it seemed that the channel was changed, it was no longer there.

I'm very interested in these portals, I'm really looking forward to using one, and this time I'm doing some Christmas shopping.

More than portals, this looks like a wormhole, because it is not very reliable, it spits me anywhere or any time and it is scary because it could spit me out in the middle of nowhere.

Now I'm in what seems like a very ancient time, my head hurts as if I've been hit. All I see is darkness. The only thing clear is that my hands are tied behind my back and a gag in my mouth.

But I'm not alone, I hear someone breathing next to me. We are both lying on the floor of what looks like a small room, and something drags us (I don't know what), into a dimly lit room with an old-fashioned table and some chairs around it.

The door closes with a loud bang. The diners are startled. They stare at us for a few seconds before bursting into hysterical laughter.

-Who are they? -asks one of them with a chuckle.

-I'm... I'm from Earth .... -I babble through the gag as I try to free myself from whatever is holding me to the ground, but it's no use, my hands won't move a millimeter!

Something tells me I'm going to be devoured, and right on a good night.
