When one thinks of the word inheritance, many people think of any kind of good, property or money that a relative who has died may leave: some have received this kind of inheritance, I have not, thank God, my parents, uncles and grandmother are still alive, I hope they will be with me for a long time.

Even so, I have already received from them another type of inheritance, it has to do with the genetic part more than with any material good. You see, both my maternal grandmother and my paternal grandmother have had problems with blood pressure; they inherited this problem to their children, that is, to almost all my uncles and aunts, my mother and my father.

I remember the case of one of my aunts, for example, who had a very high blood pressure, over 200 according to the device they used to measure her blood pressure. Although she did not present this problem until she reached an advanced age, sooner rather than later she had to begin treatment to lower her high blood pressure.

Genetics does not fail. Since this disease had run in my family, it was most likely that either I or my brother had this problem as well. So far, my brother had no symptoms of high blood pressure; however, I did.

I remember that at the beginning of the pandemic I became quite anxious about the situation, which caused me depression and stress. I have always tried to eat with little salt and not too much fat, although from time to time I go off my diet; nevertheless, on that occasion when I was emotionally affected, my blood pressure went up without any warning.

Although I did not know the symptoms, when I told my mother about it, she immediately recognized what I had because she had already seen her siblings and her mother go through this. It didn't take me long to go to an outpatient center to have my blood pressure taken and indeed it was high; not as high as my aunt's, but it was above normal values...

Since then I have tried to watch my intake of salt, fats and other foods that can raise my blood pressure, to avoid any problems; however, I am a very emotional person, so when I experience negative emotions and stress, my blood pressure usually goes up no matter how careful I have been with my diet or lifestyle.

Emotionally I have not been well for a while now, added to this I have had trouble sleeping and stress has taken its toll on me. I felt that sooner or later I would experience something related to high blood pressure again and I did, the dangerous thing this time is that it manifested itself at night.

This is especially dangerous because during the night you are sleeping and you are not aware of the symptoms, therefore, you cannot go to a medical center for assistance. The danger is there.

Although a few days earlier I had manifested some strange symptoms, it was on Thursday last week, during the night, that I felt really bad. At about 4 a.m. I told my aunt's husband, who is also hypertensive, what I was feeling, and he told me that the symptoms were very similar to his when his blood pressure rises.

I was afraid to go out alone at that hour to an ambulatory center because it was very dark, so I had to wait until it was daylight to go out to have my blood pressure taken; indeed, it was very high. The doctor told me that I had probably had it higher hours before, but it was already starting to go down. Imagine how high my blood pressure must have been if hours later, when it was starting to come down, it was already well above normal values. Without making it too clear, the doctor implied that I was lucky to have woken up when my blood pressure was so high....

I went to the cardiologist the next day and he sent me to take my blood pressure every day for a week. Since that day, on Friday, I have been doing it and it has not gone down, although it is at the limit of what the doctor said was the danger zone.

Today, Monday, the cardiologist put a device on me to do a study to see how my blood pressure behaves during the night, to determine whether or not he should prescribe me a medication, since he does not usually prescribe them without doing the studies, much less when the patient, me, is only 28 years old.

I am going to be very honest, I am scared, but I am confident that this is something that I will get over with the treatment and care that I usually take. Being diagnosed with an illness is never a cause for joy, on the contrary, it causes anxiety, so I think it is normal to feel this way. It scares me that my blood pressure will continue to rise at night, because I live alone, you can imagine....

Let's see what comes out of this test they are doing on me with this device, for my part I can only wait and be calm.

We can be very grateful to the family for the cultural, religious or monetary heritage they can leave us, but sometimes the genetic inheritance that the family leaves us brings unwanted gifts ...

Well friends, that's all for now. Take care of yourselves, watch your emotions, stress and anything that can destabilize you, especially in these times. Be careful also with your diet, try to eat healthy and do not eat things that can harm you later. Life is very beautiful, but we must take care of ourselves in every aspect to enjoy it.

Thank you very much for reading my words. I invite you to leave your opinions below in the comments, as always I will be happy to read them. With nothing more to add, I will say goodbye then...

See you next time!
