Hola amigos de Hive, soy Orlando Torres López, nacido en el municipio Consolación del Sur, provincia de Pinar del Río, Cuba. Unos me dicen: "canta autor", lógico, canto lo que compongo. En realidad soy fundador del MNT, un movimiento creado en la década de los 70, bien representado por esos grandes de la trova: Noel Nicola, Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanes, Santiago y Vicente Feliú, Sara González, entre otros.
El Movimiento de la Nueva Trova se caracteriza por hacer estructuras armónicas algo más novedosas, que la llamada Vieja Trova, aunque sin abandonar sus raíces. Se complejiza un poco más la música y los textos se apoyan, en una forma más poética, donde reinan metáforas más complejas. Aunque tratando de que llame la atención y sean entendibles para el oyente de toda época y toda índole.
En mi caso, siempre me abracé a la causa de componer desde mi escaso alcance en el tema, puesto que nunca estudié composición, pero tampoco la guitarra ni el canto. Hago mis canciones con una línea melódica, siempre imprimiéndole mi estilo propio, algo que creo haber logrado, pues mis amigos, músicos o no, que me escuchan y aplauden, me dicen que cuando escuchan una canción mía, saben que soy yo el autor.
Expresar que desde niño empecé cantando diferentes canciones, a las que le hacía arreglos utilizando un peine que envolvía en un papel soplándolo, y como percusión una lata de cinco galones que eran vendidas en las bodegas llenas de manteca. Más tarde me bequé en un tecnológico agropecuario, allí conocí al negro Morgan, como todos le llamábamos, que además de ser alumno tocaba la guitarra y con él la aprendí a tocar.
Allí formamos un combo, que así se le llamaba a las pequeñas agrupaciones, cuyos instrumentos eran guitarra prima, guitarra acompañante, bajo, batería y tumbadora. En dicha agrupación tocaba la guitarra y cantaba, pero además me di cuenta de que podía componer y así salieron mis primeras canciones.
Después de graduado, los mismos integrantes logramos hacer otro combo, cuando aquello estaba en el bombo "Los Ángeles Negros", y montamos toda su obra. Nos decían "Los Angeles Negros de Cuba", pero todo eso pasó. Más tarde me hice trovador dentro del movimiento de aficionados, en el cual llevo más de 40 años.
He compuesto canciones infantiles que han sido premiadas en concursos como: (Planeta Azul), (Cantándole al Sol), he compuesto para otros concursos como el Pedro Junco, Adolfo Gusmán, Benny Moré, Festivales del Creador Musical, obteniendo premios y menciones. Cantando, he participado en eventos organizados por la CTC y el Ministerio de Cultura, y dentro del movimiento he representado a mi país en los festivales Víctor Jara y en Las Rosas Rojas en la República de Bulgaria, donde tengo muchas anécdotas que contarles más adelante.
Para mi orgullo tengo dos hijas y dos nietas que heredaron mis inclinaciones musicales. La mayor es actriz cantante del Coro Polifónico provincial y la compañía del Teatro Lírico Ernesto Lecuona. Mi otra hija hizo la licenciatura en instructora de arte, es actualmente guitarrista, cantante, y trabaja en nuestra casa de cultura Pedro Junco, ubicada en la cabecera de la provincia pinareña. Mis nietas estudian en la escuela de arte, una en tercer año de piano, la otra en percusión.
Mi esposa, aunque no es músico, ha sido un medidor importante para la familia, pues ha estado al tanto de que todo se haga con disciplina, que participemos en las actividades que programamos. Y en mi caso hace varios aportes a las obras que compongo, donde para mi felicidad en la mayoría de mis canciones ella es mi referencia.
Conocí a Hive por medio de mi vecino @eduardo900613, el cual me propuso adentrarme a la web3 como una poderosa herramienta para compartir mi arte con los amigos de la colmena, asi como poder conocer e interactuar con otros creadores. The New Trova Movement is characterized by making harmonic structures somewhat more novel than the so-called Old Trova, although without abandoning its roots. The music becomes a little more complex and the texts are supported in a more poetic way, where more complex metaphors reign. Although trying to call the attention and be understandable for the listener of all times and all kinds.
In my case, I always embraced the cause of composing from my limited scope in the subject, since I never studied composition, but neither guitar nor singing. I make my songs with a melodic line, always printing my own style, something that I think I have achieved, because my friends, musicians or not, who listen to me and applaud me, tell me that when they hear a song of mine, they know that I am the author.
To express that since I was a child I started singing different songs, to which I made arrangements using a comb that I wrapped in a paper blowing it, and as percussion a five gallon can that were sold in the warehouses full of butter. Later on, I got a degree in agricultural technology, and there I met the Negro Morgan, as we all called him, who besides being a student, played the guitar and with him I learned to play it.
There we formed a combo, which was the name given to small groups, whose instruments were lead guitar, backing guitar, bass, drums and tumbadora. In that group I played guitar and sang, but I also realized that I could compose and that's how my first songs came out.
After graduating, the same members managed to make another combo, when that was in the hype "Los Angeles Negros", and we mounted all his work. They called us "Los Angeles Negros de Cuba", but all that passed. Later I became a troubadour in the amateur movement, in which I have been involved for more than 40 years.
I have composed children's songs that have been awarded in contests such as: (Planeta Azul), (Cantándole al Sol), I have composed for other contests such as the Pedro Junco, Adolfo Gusmán, Benny Moré, Festivals of the Musical Creator, obtaining prizes and mentions. Singing, I have participated in events organized by the CTC and the Ministry of Culture, and within the movement I have represented my country in the Victor Jara and Las Rosas Rojas festivals in the Republic of Bulgaria, where I have many anecdotes to tell you later.
To my pride I have two daughters and two granddaughters who inherited my musical inclinations. The eldest is a singing actress in the provincial Polyphonic Choir and the company of the Ernesto Lecuona Lyric Theater. My other daughter graduated as an art instructor, is currently a guitarist, singer, and works in our Pedro Junco cultural house, located in the head of the province of Pinar del Río. My granddaughters are studying at the art school, one in the third year of piano, the other in percussion.
My wife, although she is not a musician, has been an important gauge for the family, because she has been aware that everything is done with discipline, that we participate in the activities that we program. And in my case she makes several contributions to the works I compose, where for my happiness in most of my songs she is my reference.
