El viaje más interesante en mi vida, hasta ahora. "My most interesting trip so far."
Querido lector de #Hive, hoy te quiero platicar acerca de el viaje que tuve la fortuna de hacer entre Arabia Saudita y EE.UU. en el 2014.
El principal propósito de este viaje, fue transportar los aviones Short SC.7 Skyvan que la compañía Win Aviation había adquirido el año anterior. Fueron en total cuatro aviones y se volaron en pares, con un intervalo de algunos meses. A mi me tocó ser el primer oficial del N194WW que fue el último de los Skyvans en despegar hacia Estados Unidos. Cabe mencionar que estos SC.7 Skyvans, en particular son los que menos horas de vuelo tienen acumuladas en el Mundo. ¡Esto se debe a que se utilizaron muy poco por el gobierno de Arabia Saudita y por lo tanto estuvieron guardados en los hangares por más de 20 años!
Dear #Hive reader, today I want to tell you about the trip I was fortunate enough to make between Saudi Arabia and the USA in 2014.
The main purpose of this trip was to transport the Short SC.7 Skyvan aircraft that the company Win Aviation had acquired the previous year. There were a total of four Skyvans and we flew them in pairs, with an interval of a few months. I was the first officer of N194WW, which was the last of the Skyvans to take to the USA. It is worth mentioning that these particular SC.7 Skyvans are the ones with the least accumulated flight hours in the World, this is because they were used very little by the Saudi Arabian government and therefore were stored in hangars for more than 20 years!

Algunos días en Jeddah
Además de la parte del vuelo, en este tipo de viajes siempre se presentan grandes oportunidades para expandir nuestro conocimiento y para entrar en contacto con la riqueza de otras culturas. En este caso nos tocó estar en Jeddah por 5 días, en los cuales ademas de trabajar en los aviones, nos dimos el tiempo para conocer la ciudad.
Durante nuestra visita se estaba celebrando el Ramadan. Me llamó mucho la atención el tema y se me hizo muy interesante ver como la gente disfrutaba de sus alimentos a partir la puesta del sol, despues de haber mantenido el ayuno tracidional.
Incluso cosas cotidainas con ir al supermercado, fueron interesantes. Los supermercados en Jeddah abren despues de las 9:00 PM y la gente sale por las noches para sus actividades diarias. Recuerdo haber pensado que esto posiblemente se deba al calor intenso del día.
In addition to the flying part, this kind of trip always presents great opportunities to expand our knowledge and to get in touch with the richness of other cultures. In this case, we were in Jeddah for 5 days, in which besides working on the planes, we took the time to get to know the city.
During our visit Ramadan was being celebrated. I was very interested to see how people were enjoying their food after sunset and after having kept the traditional fast.
Even common activities like going to the supermarket were interesting. The supermarkets in Jeddah open after 9:00 PM and people go out in the evenings for their daily activities. I remember thinking that this was possibly due to the intense heat of the day.

El Vuelo "The Flight"
Para hacer este tipo de vuelos en aviones no presurizados, hay dos opciones en cuanto a la ruta a seguir: la ruta por Groenlandia y la ruta queue volamos nosotros. La que volamos fue con escala en las Islas Azores. Nos llevó poco mas de dos semanas y 50 horas de vuelo para completar la travesía.
To do this type of flight in non-pressurized aircraft, there are two options regarding the route to follow: the route through Greenland and the route we flew. The one we flew was with a stopover in the Azores. It took us just over two weeks and 50 flight hours to complete the crossing.
