¡Hola, chicos!

Hey guys!

Today I share with you what could be a segment of the Book of my Life that will be called "Simply Eli", who knows, maybe someone will buy it and read it hahaha (I have faith).

If there is something that I have always done and you could say that I like it, it is to give my best in life, to try to better myself and have things, without waiting for someone else to give them to me and not because my dad denied us something at home, he has always accommodated us with whatever we asked for and as much as possible despite having 10 children and many of them being married.

When I was a child, I used to play that I was going away for a long trip to live a great adventure, and boy, was I ever! I said goodbye to all my family, including my grandmothers and older siblings, thinking I would "soon" see them again, but how long is soon? Well, 25 years had passed.

I arrived in a different country when I was only 7 years old, almost 8 years old, after living a few months in Caracas, we travelled to the east where we were welcomed in a house, the owner's family also lived there, they were good people, but of those people who being good can be bad or unjust.

My father, who is a mechanic, had to work every day on the cars of the owner of the house without monetary payment, since they gave us food and lodging. My mother had to cook, clean and help with everything the lady of the house required and many times we were in need, things that they could not or would not give us, such as nappies for my younger siblings, more food and not little, because it was not even enough and we were 4 children.

The man's children, who were already teenagers, invited me with them to a camp, I asked my mother for permission and decided to go "to play", that's how I saw it, I was just a child. My sister and I would get on a kind of truck where the pigs that the man transported to the field, some seeds and materials, would go.

When we arrived in the fields, the game was to wash the pigs, feed them, the cows and chickens, we also grabbed sticks to open holes in the ploughed land and sow corn and beans. The older daughters of the master stayed at home, only the best son went but he did little, but for me it was a fun game, when now I see it as a possible exploitation of child labour hahaha.

I was happy to go to the fields every day and sometimes I went alone to "play", but my greatest joy was to return with a basket full of corn, beans and yucca, I was so happy, because at last my mother could cook and give us something to eat more than the little or very little that the owners of the house gave us.

My mum didn't ask me to go, my parents didn't force me to work and I repeat, for me it was just a game. But there came a time when my mum wouldn't let me go any more, as she began to see that it was a job and that I was just being used and exploited for work. She insisted so much to my dad to look for outside jobs so that we could finally move and be independent.

When I was 10 years old, I sold books that were free of charge haha, yes I sold them, they were books that came I think in the newspaper "El Nacional", children's stories of "Risitos de Oro", "Pulgarsito" and others, I made combos of 3 for a price and I went from house to house and people bought them from me, I collected money and when one day I went to give it to my mum excited so she could buy food, she punished me for selling books hahahaha. It was logical, she didn't tell me to do that.

I'm not ashamed of that first job, nor of selling books for free haha, I even laugh at my adventure and innocence. I still remember the smell of pigs sticking to my body, as I almost always went next to them haha. Nowadays I see so many migrant children and I remember being one of them, I see them begging, working in the streets of a strange country to eat and I don't judge them, maybe they are playing to help mum and dad who haven't had the best of luck.

On the other hand, I see parents who emigrate and put their children to so many needs and no, I am not talking about my parents' case, they never put us to beg or to go through extreme needs and they always looked for the best and advanced for us, working honestly.

And then there are those who take advantage of the needs of others, humiliate, exploit labour for an unfair payment and those who, without knowing their rights, do not demand because threats have made them afraid.

Recuerdo cuando me entrevistaron, mi papá me llevó, tenía 17 años y me preguntaron, usted sabe regar plantas y cuidarlas y yo ¡pues claro!

Eventually I grew up and what do you know, my first legal and paid job was to be a gardener in the house of an Italian family hehe... I love Italy, so I loved that job. I learned a lot of good things with them.

I remember when they interviewed me, my dad took me, I was 17 years old and they asked me, do you know how to water plants and take care of them and of course I did! How hard could it be? In the first month an imported tree dried up, hahaha, but I managed to get it back, its root was alive.

In that house I met the beautiful Venezuelan actor "Luciano D'Alessandro", who was a friend of one of the sons of the Italian and whom I received with short shores, a broom in his hand and a watering can, the worst thing is that I didn't recognize him haha, but he is a beautiful person, he smiled and talked to me for a while. Thank goodness he must not remember that.

And well, that was my first official job and the first two not so official ones, but which I remember with laughter, and also with a bit of nostalgia, which lead me to see that from there my essence was clear, always helping others, always helping without being asked, and in the end that's how they, my parents, made me.

In life we must "move forward", as they say in Venezuelan Creole hehe, the opportunities are there, it's up to us to take advantage of them. Some people wouldn't accept jobs like that because they see them as less, but I enjoyed them xD and I think that's the most important thing, an honest job where you can feel good, even if the stupid turtle (the Italians' pet) eats the flowers and 💩💩 the patio hahahaha.

See you in the next episode!
