I come with news about my college future.
Hoy, después de acompañar a @manujune al banco de sangre (ella le contará las buenas nuevas), decidimos ir de vuelta a la central para buscar información sobre el proceso de ingreso a la carrera de medicina.
Today, after accompanying @manujune to the blood bank (she will tell you the good news), we decided to go back to headquarters to look for information about the medical school admissions process.
Tomamos un bus desde el hospital Vargas, pero por razones que no podemos explicar, nos embarcamos en una lenta y calurosa tortura de más de media hora cuando pudimos habernos bajado en la primera estación del metro (Capitolio) y llegar hasta Ciudad Universitaria en unos 10 minutos.
Terminamos bajándonos en la estación de la bandera gracias a que el bus se quedó estancado en un semáforo y vimos el aviso del metro que nos recordó que podíamos ir más rápido 🤭
Fun fact: mi papá dejó su preciada botella de agua en el bus. 🤣
We took a bus from Vargas Hospital, but for reasons we can't explain, we embarked on a slow and hot torture of more than half an hour when we could have gotten off at the first metro station (Capitolio) and made it to Ciudad Universitaria in about 10 minutes.
We ended up getting off at La Bandera station thanks to the bus getting stuck at a traffic light and us seeing the subway sign reminding us that we could go faster 🤭.
Fun fact: my dad left his precious water bottle on the bus. 🤣
Usamos nuestras nuevas tarjetas del metro, pero en primer tren que tomamos, a diferencia de la última vez, no tenía aire acondicionado.
Otro fun fact: vimos agua corriendo entre los rieles del tren (no sabemos si era una tubería rota o un manantial natural).
We used our new metro cards, but the first train we took, unlike last time, did not have air conditioning.
Another fun fact: we saw water running between the rails of the train (we don't know if it was a broken pipe or a natural spring).
Llegamos a la ciudad universitaria y fuimos directamente a la oficina de Control de Estudios en el primer piso del Decanato de la Facultad de Medicina.
Habían tres secretarias y nos atendió la primera de ellas muy atentamente.
Nos orientó sobre las opciones de ingreso a la carrera.
1. OPSU (oficina de planificación del ministerio de educación superior que asigna carreras en base a tu solicitud, de haber disponibilidad) y las notas exigidas por la carrera (más de 18 en el caso de medicina).
2. SIMADI. Prueba de admisión interna de la UCV. Exige promedio alto.
3. Merito Deportivo. Un programa especial para atletas de alto rendimiento y buen promedio de calificaciones que pertenecen a asociaciones o federaciones de su deporte.
We arrived at the university city and went directly to the Registrar's office on the second floor of the Dean's Office of the School of Medicine.
There were three secretaries and the first of them attended us very attentively.
She took us through the options for admission to the program.
1. OPSU
(form filled at HS for the planning office of the Ministry of Higher Education that assigns careers based on your application, if available and high GPA in the cdase of medicine).
2. SIMADI
(UCV's internal admission test). Over 18 GPA required.
3. Sport Merit
A special program for high performance athletes with good GPA who belong to associations or federations of their sport.
Salimos del Decanato de la facultad de medicina en busca de la dirección de deportes para que nos dieran más detalles sobre la tercera opción.
Me sentí bien sabiendo que al menos tengo más del promedio requerido y que hay opciones adicionales en caso de no salir asignado por la OPSU.
We left the dean's office of the medical school in search of the athletic directorate to get more details about the third option.
I felt good knowing that at least I have more than the required GPA and that there are additional options in case I don't get assigned by OPSU.
Nos gustó que había más gente en todas partes. Se sentía el aura universitaria. Puede ver diferentes tipos de estudiantes o personalidades. Y todo lucía muy limpio.
We liked that there were more people everywhere. You could feel the university aura. You can see different types of students or personalities. And everything looked very clean.
Pasamos por la plaza del rectorado, uno de los lugares más emblemáticos de la UCV.
We passed by the Rector's Square, one of the most emblematic places of the UCV.
Me encantó poder compartir con mi papá esta experiencia.
I loved being able to share this experience with my dad.
Seguimos caminando y disfrutando de cada edificio o jardín.
We continued walking and enjoying each building or garden.
Llegamos al edificio de deportes. Nos recibió un gato 🤭 y una super piscina muy bien cuidada.
We arrived at the sports building. We were greeted by a cat 🤭 and a very well kept super pool.
Otra muy amable secretaria nos explicó cómo funciona la opción de mérito deportivo y estaba muy emocionada porque yo había ido a averiguar todo eso con un año de anticipación. Al parecer los bachilleres acostumbrar ir muy tarde.
Nos remitió a una cartelera con detalles específicos para optar por esta opción.
Another very kind secretary explained to us how the sports merit option works and was very excited because I had gone to find out all that a year in advance. Apparently high school graduates are used to going very late.
She referred us to a bulletin board with specific details on how to opt for this option.
Desayunamos en un cafetín frente a la piscina olímpica (muy sabrosas las empanadas por cierto y el servicio muy atento).
We had breakfast in a cafe in front of the Olympic swimming pool (very tasty empanadas by the way and very attentive service).
Le había preguntado a la secretaria dónde estaba la cancha de voleibol (el deporte que yo practico) y caminamos hacia allá. En el camino nos encontramos con las instalaciones de fútbol y atletismo.
I had asked the secretary where the volleyball court was (the sport I play) and we walked there. On the way we came across the soccer and track and field facilities.
Finalmente llegamos al gimnasio cubierto (también se practican otros deportes ahí), pero estaba cerrado.
We finally made it to the indoor gym (other sports are also played there), but it was closed.
Subimos al primer piso y la vista era genial.
We went up to the first floor and the view was great from there.
Nos tomamos muchas fotos con algunos de los edificios más conocidos de la ciudad al fondo.
We took many pictures with some of the city's most famous buildings in the background.
Queríamos ver las famosas guacamayas de Caracas, pero tuvimos que conformarnos con un par de zamuros 🤣🤣
We wanted to see the famous Caracas macaws, but had to settle for a pair of buzzards 🤣🤣

Hubo una que me encantó que saltaba en el césped. No quedó evidencia al respecto pero quedará como recuerdo en mi corazón.

There was one that I loved jumping in the grass. There was no evidence of it but it will remain as a memory in my heart.
Mi papá se tropezó con un árbol de "Pata de vaca", cómo le dicen en su pueblo.
My dad stumbled upon a “Cow's hoove” tree, as they call it in his village.
Le trajo muchos recuerdos de su niñez porque tenían uno frente a la casa de los abuelos.
It brought back many memories of his childhood because they had one in front of his grandparents' house.
De regreso, tomamos el metro hasta la estación mas cercana al apartamento.
On the way back, we took the subway to the station closest to the apartment.
Me sentí muy bien porque me acordé de todo el proceso de transbordo de la línea 3 a la linea 2.
It felt great because I remembered the whole process of transferring from line 3 to line 2.
Aunque los buhoneros estan prohibidos según este letrero, vimos unos cuatro en el tiempo que duró el recorrido hasta la estación de Capitolio.
Although hawkers are prohibited according to this sign, we saw about four in the time it took to get to Capitolio station.
Supongo que es difícil evitar que alguien se gane la vida vendiendo algo en las calles si no tiene trabajo.
I guess it's hard to stop someone from making a living selling something on the streets if they don't have a job.
Pero ciertamente no es muy cómodo que digamos con tanta gente amontonada en los vagones.
But it is certainly not very comfortable with so many people crammed into the waggons.
Finalmente, tomamos el bus que nos llevaría al apartamento. Estábamos exhaustos, pero felices.
Finally, we took the bus that would take us to the apartment. We were exhausted, but happy.
