Visit to the dermatologist for prevention

El cuidado de la piel no solo se trata de skincare y productos que utilizamos por estética. También se trata de revisar nuestra piel y estar atentos a cualquier cambio o alteración que notemos en ella.
Hace un par de semanas atrás mi esposo y yo notamos que lo que anteriormente había sido un lunar en su antebrazo (o una quemadura, pues él no lo recuerda bien), estaba cambiando su forma, color y textura.
Pedimos una cita para realizar la evaluación por el seguro médico pero sabíamos que demorarían un par de semanas en darnos la cita, así que decidimos recurrir a la medicina privada y visitar a una dermatóloga. Mi esposo desde el inicio supo que quería quitarse ese "lunar" para descartar cualquier anomalía, así que eso solicitamos el mismo día que pedimos la cita. Al día siguiente sería la consulta médica y el retiro de forma ambulatoria. Fue una alivio que todo pudiese ser tan rápido pero esos procedimientos siempre dan un poco de miedo.
Mi esposo estaba muy nervioso así que yo me quedé al lado de él mirando cómo retiraban el "lunar". Realmente no me dio impresión, me pareció como si le estuviesen despegando un sticker😅. Una vez retirado de la piel, la doctora lo colocó en un frasco con formol para que le realizáramos una biopsia. También le hizo la primera cura y nos explicó cómo debían ser los próximos 10 días, hasta el retiro de los puntos. Debíamos limpiar, aplicar crema y proteger con gasa estéril.
Su impresión diagnóstica fue "queratosis seborreica", nos dijo que era una lesión superficial pero que de todos modos no estaba mal prevenir antes que lamentar.
Todo esto ocurrió hace 3 semanas atrás. Ya le retiraron los puntos y ahora solo debe cuidarse la zona con la crema cicatrizante "Procicar". Mi esposo es de piel blanca, así que debe continuar cuidándose su piel y protegiéndose del sol.
Espero tener buenas noticias cuando recibamos los resultados de la biopsia, por los momentos, estoy agradecida de que todo el proceso haya sido tranquilo y sin inconvenientes. Esta fue una gran oportunidad para recordar, en familia, que el cuidado de la piel no es cuestión de vanidad. Es, de hecho, un aspecto más de la salud física, de la cual deben responsabilizarse hombres y mujeres.

A couple of weeks ago my husband and I noticed that what had previously been a mole on his forearm (or a burn, as he can't quite remember) was changing shape, colour and texture.
We made an appointment for an insurance evaluation, but we knew it would take a couple of weeks to get an appointment, so we decided to go private and see a dermatologist. My husband knew from the start that he wanted to have that "mole" removed to rule out any abnormalities, so we made the request the same day we made the appointment. The next day would be the medical consultation and the removal on an outpatient basis. It was a relief that everything could be so quick but those procedures are always a bit scary.
My husband was very nervous so I stood next to him watching the "mole" being removed. It didn't really impress me, it felt like a sticker was being peeled off😅. Once it was removed from the skin, the doctor placed it in a bottle with formalin so that we could perform a biopsy. She also did the first dressing and explained to us what the next 10 days would be like, until the stitches were removed. We were to clean, apply cream and protect with sterile gauze.
His diagnostic impression was "seborrhoeic keratosis", he told us that it was a superficial lesion but that it was better to be safe than sorry.
All this happened 3 weeks ago. The stitches have been removed and now he only has to take care of the area with the healing cream "Procicar". My husband is fair skinned, so he must continue to take care of his skin and protect himself from the sun.
I hope to have good news when we receive the results of the biopsy, for now, I am thankful that the whole process has been smooth and uneventful. This was a great opportunity to remember, as a family, that skin care is not a matter of vanity. It is, in fact, another aspect of physical health, for which both men and women must take responsibility.
