A few years ago I was obsessed with the idea of lightpainting a model in a blacked out studio. I was still fairly new to shooting models at the time so it took me a few attempts to get the exposures and lighting right. I've always preferred to try something out for myself rather than be taught someone else's technique; it's far more fun that way! During this photoshoot, I did revert to type and couldn't resist getting experimental....
Waving lights
Here I've used a clear tube with greaseproof paper rolled up inside with a flashlight shining through the tube, "Eric Pare" style. The greasproof paper gave the colour a warmer brown tone than I was expecting.
Diaphonous Aisha
Messing about with light blades on a partially exposed Aisha against a blown out background; not sure if it's worked but I like the effect...
Aisha and the bokeh
I asked Aisha to adopt this pose for the second part of a lens and tripod swap image. She really was very patient while I faffed around working out the technicals before eventually putting them all together in one exposure:
Waving lights in the dark
Ian Hobson style LED lighting waved around behind Aisha and a flash of light at the end of the exposure, all shot in one exposure:
About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
