Kinetic lightpainting on Hive

I'm a big fan of kinetic photography and it's use in lightpainting. It's basically something in lightpainting I don't see very much I should imagine because it's not easy and people just don't get what they're supposed to be looking at! I tend not to worry what other people think and shoot this stuff for myself....

Spinning Chayla

Studio based lightpainting with a very patient Chayla East. Here I've use an 1/8th power strobe followed by a freehand spin lit with a continuous studio light. All shot in one photographic exposure. Once lockdown is over I'm keen to try this technique again!

Spinning the Kelpies

On my way back down from a work trip around the less glamorous sights of Scotland I called in to Falkirk to see the Kelpies in the dark. These are 30mtrs high horse sculptues and and the inside is lit and cycles through different colours. I set the camera on a tripod and spun the camera on it's lens axis. The exposure was part static and part motion but all in one photographic exposure.

To boldly go...

A cracking collaboration with @fadetoblack where Tim posed with a continuous backlight while I panned the camera down to the floor after a short period of statically pointing the camera. This takes a while to work out exposure and the smoothness but it's easy to nail once you're worked out the technical stuff.

Virus 2.0

Kitchen based lightpainting also known as "SOOK" as in straight outta my kitchen. This shot involved standing in my kitchen in the dark with two tripods, two flash stands, a zoom pull on one lens and a bit of kinetic panning motion on the other. All shot in one photographic exposure.
