During the Northen Hemisphere summer months, it gets dark sooooo late and the opportunities to get out and practice the dark art of lightpainting become all too rare. I also occasionally have a clear out of rejected images and stumbled across this set of shots with Desne Alderson.
I can't for the life of me fathom why I rejected them! I think it's because I've started to use Luminar Neo for photo curation and RAW file conversion. Previously, I've used Photoshop to browse through the images and I hate Lightroom with a passion. It seems the thumbnails in Photoshop may well be too small, so small in fact I've missed these images.

Desne waves a light blade
This is what happens if you ask the model to wave a light blade around then fire a flashgun just as she finishes the movement. I would have avoided the silhouete if I'd bothered to take another strobe with me on this evening!
Desne's first time lightpainting
To say this was Desne's first time with a light blade, she really took to it like a duck to water!
Same technique as above but with a green fluorescent tube:
Desne strikes a pose
Desne has all the right curves in all the right places and looks good in silhouette!
Reach out
I shot a similar one to this afterwards; I can think why I thought we hadn't nailed it the first time??!
Lightpainter's OCD
It's well known amongst lightpainters that we must have some form of OCD. It's not the clinical type of OCD but certainly some kind of perfectionism. Here I was stood behind Desne in the dark trying my best at waving light blade symmetry!
Desne's Ruined Fur Coat
I'm afraid to say the fur coat Desne was carrying here ended up ruined in the muddy, grimey slush on the floor of this lime kiln. She was a bit miffed about it but soon calmed down after bribery with a McD''s.....
And finally...
I got quite a lot of similar shots on the evening with Desne; most sit on a hard drive never to be seen again. This version needs an airing!
About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.

Lightpainting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.
If you would like to see more lightpainting please give the Lightpainters United Community a follow and you will be introduced into the illuminating world of light painting!
